In an interview, Sanjay Dutt mentioned the time he was diagnosed with cancer and recalled how he had reacted to it then, thinking about his kids and wife. Read on to know the details!
The year 2020 would always be remembered by everyone for the global pandemic, which followed a series of unlikely events, the demise of close ones and getting confined inside the four walls of our house. This was also one of the saddest years for Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt and his family, as he was diagnosed with one of the deadliest diseases, cancer. Since the day he had announced the news, his fans were heartbroken and had prayed for his speedy recovery.
However, prayers from Sanjay Dutt's friends, fans and family must have reached the God that he had fought the battle and had come out victorious. It was on the birthday of his twin kids, Shahraan and Iqra from his third wife, Maanayata Dutt, i.e. on October 21, 2020, that he had announced his recovery. He had shared a picture message and had mentioned that he had defeated the deadliest disease. Sanjay's official statement could be read as:
"The last few weeks were very difficult time for my family and me. But like they say, God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. And today, on the occasion of my kids’ birthday, I am happy to come out victorious from this battle and be able to give them the best gift I can- the health and well being of our family. This wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering faith and support from all of you. I am eternally grateful to my family, friends and all the fans who have stood by me and been my source of strength through this trying time. Thank you for the love, kindness and the countless blessings that you have sent my way."

In an interview with a YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Sanjay Dutt recalled the time when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2020. He mentioned that everyone in his family had hoped about Tuberculosis, however, it turned out this. He further added that no one in the family had the courage to break the ice to him. Thus, his sister, Priya Dutt had told him the saddest news. Talking about the same, Sanjay said:
“It was a normal day in the lockdown. And I walked up the steps, I was totally out of breath. I had a bath, I couldn’t breathe, I didn’t know what was happening, I called up my doctor. In the X-ray, my lungs were more than half covered in water. They had to tap the water out. They all were hoping it was TB (tuberculosis) but it turned out to be cancer. How to break it to me, that was a big issue. I could have broken somebody’s face. So, my sister came and told me."
Further, in the conversation, Sanjay mentioned that after hearing the news, he had cried for hours, thinking about his kids, his wife and everything around him. However, the love-filled moments he had shared with his family flashed in front of him, and he had gained the courage to fight cancer. He added:
"I said, ‘Okay, I got cancer, now what?’ Then you start planning things, will do this and that… But I did cry for over two-three hours because I was thinking about my kids and my life and my wife and everything. These flashes come and I said, 'I am going to stop getting weak'."

Sanjay also revealed that his doctor had warned him of several side effects of chemotherapy, that he might lose hair and many others. But he mentioned that he had assured his doctor by saying "mereko kuch nahi hoga", and had taken the vital step to fight cancer. For the unversed, Sanjay had jetted off to Dubai to cure his disease, and now he is absolutely cancer-free.
