Sanjay Dutt's sister, Priya recently shared how their mom, Nargis, sacrificed her career all because of her own choice.
Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt's sister, Priya, is greatly aware of cinema apart from politics. Sunil and Nargis were blessed with Sanjay, Namrata and Priya, children of great film personalities. Well, Priya made her career in politics and was not intertwined in the mayhem of cinema. However, she recently revealed the sacrifices her mom, Nargis, had made, who was at the top of her career, when she left everything to take care of her family. Priya's mom, Nargis, made sure that her kids had the best well-being.
During a recent interview with the Free Press Journal, Priya sat down for a chat where she spoke about the equation she had with her parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis. She had not thought twice before leaving her career behind to raise her kids, Priya, Namrata, and Sanjay. Priya shared:
"My mom gave up her entire career after she got married out of choice. Whatever time I spent with my mom I soaked in a lot of her energy. I think I got to know my father very differently at that time. You know I saw him as that people's person. I saw the love people had for him and I realised you know what he is just not all mine. He belongs to everyone."
Being the eldest, Sanjay Dutt was the most pampered kid in the Dutt household. He was close to Nargis, and her untimely death because of pancreatic cancer had left a void in his life. She expired before the debut of Sanjay's film, Rocky.
Nargis' death had left a scar on the mind of Priya as well. Earlier, in an interview with Filmfare, she revealed how, as a kid, she did not know the stardom that her parents carried. For Priya, her mother was just that - a mother! She didn't remember seeing too many of her films. She watched her dad's movies and recollected the film, where he played a dacoit in Mujhe Jeene Do in 1963 and passed away. She had started screaming and had to be calmed down and be led out of the theatre. Priya shared how she used to watch films with her mom, Nargis, in Mumbai and said:
"During Karva Chauth, mom and her friends would watch movies at our Ajanta Arts preview theatre, in the precincts of our bungalow in Bandra. That was their way of passing time. I watched Chori Chori (1956) then. It was good fun. I liked Andaz (1949) too, where mom played a modern girl. I’d accompany her to Gaiety and Galaxy theatres in Bandra. I remember watching Sholay (1975) there. The Mausiji scene with Dharmendraji was fun. And so was the Yeh dosti hum nahin chodenge number. Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) was terrifying for me as a child. He left an impact."
Priya also agreed that the truth was she never liked watching her parents on screen. Especially her dad, as she could not bear to see him romance anyone. Priya loved her mom's work in Raat Aur Din (1967), which had her play a split personality. It took 10 years to complete. Sanjay, Namrata and Priya were born during it.
