Throwback to a time when Sanjay Dutt spoke about his relationship with Tina Munim and revealed how at one-point she took the place of his mother, Nargis in his life.
The year 1981 saw Sanjay Dutt as an aspiring hero rising up to conquer the world with his powerful debut, Rocky. Being the son of eminent actor parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay did complete justice to the film with his stunning looks and brilliant acting mettle. However, the film not only marked his first step into Bollywood, but also added another chapter into his vivid personal life filled with multiple relationships, and it was his co-star, Tina Munim who was the newest addition to the same.
Sanjay Dutt has been exceptionally close to his mother and legendary actress, late Nargis. And naturally, her death in 1981 shook him to the core, especially since he was on the brink of making his big debut on the silver screen. But, destiny had planned something entirely different at this point, since his debut not only turned out to be the biggest grosser but also he found love and comfort in the arms of his co-star, Tina Munim. Ever since the release of the film, tabloids were full of gossip headlines about Sanjay and Tina’s relationship. While the duo did not last together as a couple, it was years later in an interview with Stardust Magazine that Sanjay revealed how Tina became the most important person in his life after his mother passed away. In his words:
“I am an emotionally weak man. I have always needed a strong influence over me. My mother was that influence. After her death, Tina has taken her place. She dominates my life, yes, but I have not allowed her to have any say in my career. Tina has never tried to stop me from working with any of her rivals. I have only one film with Poonam because I have been offered only one film with her. And where Ranjeeta is concerned, I would love to work with her too, but no one has wanted to pair us together so far."

Sanjay Dutt’s youth is known to be quite tormenting as he had battled two big situations of healing from drug addiction and his mother’s demise one after the other. There have been various reports of Sanjay’s anger management issues all these while which led him to have a severe relationship with his family members, most importantly his father and his sisters. But it had been a lesser-known fact that it was his then-gf, Tina Munim who helped him to nicen up his familial bondings. Speaking up on the same, Sanjay once mentioned:
“Tina has never ever tried to take me away from my family. She has always been the one to guide me and force me to go back home to my Dad and sisters even after a fight. Frankly, every family has its problems. And since ours is a very close-knit family, we do have our occasional tiffs and arguments – nothing serious though. And all of us take turns to sulk."
Tina Munim and Sanjay Dutt had been in a strong and steady relationship for the longest time. They had been with one another through thick and thin and no amount of rumours or gossip would have shattered them. For instance, since Tina was a successful actress back in the days, she was often linked-up with many other actors while she was still dating Sanjay Dutt. However, Sanjay always rubbished such rumours and believed in turning a blind eye to it all. Speaking up on the same, in the same interview, he said:
“My girl has been linked with so many men that it is physically impossible for any woman to cope with so many of them in such a short time. I have not defended her blindly. Each time I’ve heard or read about her, I’ve gone insane with anger – but most of the time, she has managed to convince me that what I’ve heard is not true. I love her too much not to believe her. One has to trust somebody sometime, and I trust her."

Sanjay Dutt had been a passionate lover of Tina Munim. Moreover, he also maintained a balanced and respectful relationship with her, primarily because he realised that they came from the same profession which has its fair share of ups and downs. In an interview with Stardust Magazine, Sanjay once spoke about the same and mentioned that he trusts Tina completely and expects her to do so as well. In his words:
“I always tell her, ‘Today, I am quietly taking everything I hear about you because I don’t want you to start screaming and getting suspicious the moment you listen to stories about me.’ I obviously expect her to be as understanding with me as I am with her today."
Unfortunately, despite having such unparalleled chemistry with one another, their years of dating were short-lived and Tina broke up with Sanjay due to his revived drug and alcoholic habits.
