Sanjeev Kapoor used to spend a lot of money on international calls during his long-distance relationship with Alyona Kapoor.
Celebrity Chef, entrepreneur, and television personality Sanjeev Kapoor is quite popular in every household. The Khana Khazana fame, Sanjeev is the first chef in the world to own a 24/7 food and lifestyle channel. The Government of India conferred Sanjeev with the ‘Best Chef of India’ award, and he became a household name for his culinary contributions.
Just like his splendid professional life, Sanjeev Kapoor’s personal life was also quite exceptional. From falling in love with Alyona on a train to Varanasi to five years of courtship and more than 30 years of marriage, Sanjeev’s love story has all the ingredients of a perfect dish. Not many people know that Sanjeev and Alyona had a long-distance relationship for two years.

Despite staying so far from each other, the distance only brought them closer. When Sanjeev and Alyona started dating, he was supposed to shift to New Zealand, and the duo communicated through letters. The phone calls from New Zealand to India were quite expensive, still Sanjeev used to call Alyona frequently. In an interview with The Times of India, Sanjeev talked about his expensive international calls to Alyona and said:
“The stamp used to cost $2.5 back then, and the phone calls were very expensive. With the first month's bill, I realised that my ticket back to India would have been much cheaper."
When Sanjeev Kapoor was returning to Delhi from New Zealand, Alyona decided to surprise him. Since his flight was supposed to transit from Singapore, Alyona travelled to Singapore and booked a seat next to him on the same flight. In the same interview with TOI, Alyona recalled the moment and said:
“Back then I used to work in a courier agency and I requested my boss to send me to Singapore for work. Sanjeev's flight was supposed to transit from Singapore and I made sure I got a seat right next to him. When I entered the flight, he had a pleasant surprise and we spent that time from Singapore to Delhi.”

Sanjeev Kapoor and Alyona were madly in love with each other. So much so that when Alyona’s father retired from his job, the entire family shifted to Mumbai, and Sanjeev decided to follow her. When Sanjeev got a job offer for the post of an executive chef, he just laid out one condition. Elaborating on the same, he stated:
“I got an offer and I had an ambition that I have to reach the post of executive chef in 10 years. So when I got the offer, I had a condition that I get the hotel which was in Juhu as Alyona stayed in Juhu. Later, after shifting to Bombay we got hitched and started our married life.”

The Kapoor family firmly believes in ‘A family that eats together stays together’. While Sanjeev Kapoor is a prominent name in the culinary world, his wife, Alyona Kapoor too, is no less than him as she too is an amazing chef with magic in her hands like her husband. The couple has often stated that food has always played an essential part in their relationship. Both of them are big food lovers and often go out on food dates. Moreover, they both always sit next to each other while eating and eat from the same plate.
