Sara Ali Khan had posted a picture of herself, sporting a bikini and her pictures reminded her fans of her grandmother, Sharmila Tagore's bikini look in her film, 'An Evening In Paris'.
Though actresses nowadays don't shy away from flaunting their perfectly toned bodies in bikini or swimsuits it was Sharmila Tagore, who is a pioneer of the bikini trend with her bold photoshoot in 1966, which was then followed by her contemporaries in the film industry. In more than her six decades of career, Sharmila Tagore had created a niche for herself in Hindi and Bengali cinema. From being the sex symbol of yesteryears to delivering power-packed performances in iconic movies, she exudes confidence like no other in the film industry and even today, her charm and royalty is unmatched!

Just like all of us, Sara Ali Khan admires Sharmila Tagore and her birthday wish for her grandmother had spoken volumes of her love and admiration for her. Though Sharmila Tagore had spent her 76th birthday away from the family this time due to the pandemic as Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Taimur Ali Khan and Inaaya Naumi Kemmu were in Mumbai, her granddaughter, Sara Ali Khan made up for everyone. Sara had made some special arrangements for her Badi Amman, Sharmila for her 76th birthday and giving a glimpse of the same, she had written, “Happy happy Birthday Badi Amman. Thank you for being my pillar of support, guiding force and inspiration. I love you lots.” For the birthday celebrations, while Sharmila was looking graceful as ever in a red kurti set with a black jacket, Sara had mesmerised us in a peach salwar kameez.
A few weeks ago, Sara Ali Khan had posted a picture of herself, sporting a bikini, from her Maldives vacation. Sara had looked gorgeous as ever in her sun-kissed pictures as she posed in a blue floral monokini with a hand-painted watercolour illustration print by Esha Lal, inspired by spring. Sara had captioned the post as "Sky above, Sand below, Live in the moment- Go with the flow." Sara's pictures reminded her fans of her grandmother, Sharmila Tagore's bikini look in her film, An Evening In Paris. A fan-made 'like grandmother, like granddaughter' collage has pictures of Sharmila and Sara posing in their blue monokinis.
Sara Ali Khan often treats her fans with some golden memories from her hidden archives and April 27, 2020, was no different. Dressed in a gorgeous yellow and black lehenga choli with jewellery accentuating her look, Sara had captioned her pictures as "Mere sapnon ki raani hamesha main hi thi." Sara had, very cleverly, given her grandma, Sharmila Tagore’s song, Mere Sapnon Ki Rani a twist, which sounded like her step-mom, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s dialogue, ‘Main Apni Favourite Hoon’!

On September 25, 2019, in association with Trends, the Vogue Beauty Awards 2019 had lit up Mumbai's JW Marriott hotel and it was one of the starriest nights of the year. Attending her first Vogue Beauty Awards, Sara Ali Khan had stunned her fans in a black Shriya Som gown featuring sequins and lots of ruffles. Sara had made her red-carpet debut at the awards with her badi amma, Sharmila Tagore, who was a sight to behold in a pristine white saree. While Sharmila was honoured with the Beauty Legend title, Sara had bagged the Fresh Face (Female) award. When Sara was asked about her experience of walking down the red carpet with her badi amma, she had said, “I think for me, badi amma has always kind of epitomised beauty and this is Vogue Beauty. So, I think attending with her is just very special for me.”
Sara Ali Khan, in an interview with ETimes, had spoken about having Sharmila Tagore as her grandmother. She was quoted as saying, "I'm very lucky to have a grandmother like her because she is very warm. She is amazing. She epitomizes dignity and grace. And she's also an extremely maternal and loving grandmother. If I watch 'Aradhana', and 'Mere Sapno ki Rani', I'm like, Oh my God, that's my dadi! Like, are you serious? Because she's just superb, you know, she's a star. I think she's the first star in my opinion. So sometimes it's almost confusing for me, like, really that lady is my grandmother! You know, it's weird. It is very strange. But, I mean, she's amazing. And I'm very lucky to have her in my life."
