Despite being together for almost 18 years, Rishi realised his true feelings for Tanya only a month before they were to pass out of 12th standard and on the day of their farewell, he proposed her, in the classic style: on one knee, with a rose.
But that was it for the time being. They already knew each other very well and soon the incessant expressions of love and care seemed to be getting monotonous. But then neither of them wanted to be away from each other, in different cities. Both had to relocate to different cities in pursuit of education and went pretty much steadily for next seven years, until Tanya’s family started looking for eligible grooms for her.
Somehow they braved all the odds and one fine day they were engaged to be married within 3 months. Tanya wanted to enjoy every moment of her courtship and personally looked into all the details of wedding preparations.
The wedding was every bit stylish as it was ritualistic. Rishi and Tanya went about making the preparations themselves and in this was aided by a young budding wedding planner in the city, Sanket, whose task was to turn into realty the ideas and concepts of the bride and the groom. The bridal couture was the designer Ambika Soni Lehenga in crimson which looked very elegant. The groom’s trousseau was decided by the bride who chose a Jodhpuri sherwani and Rishi loved it all the way.
Since a lot was already being spent on other fronts, the wedding cards were kept relatively simple yet elegant. The unconventional thing about this was that only one design was selected on behalf of both the families, the bride’s as well as groom’s.
But in all this, there was a delay in booking the caterer. All the catering agencies refused to take the contract because almost 100 wedding were to take place in the city on that very day. Sanket engaged a local, not so famous yet good caterer for the occasion. This though had limited the wedding food to only the typical India delicacies. No Chinese, no Mexican.
All the school friends were invited whose presence made the wedding all the more special for both of them. Everything went on smoothly and Sanket (the wedding planner) himself looked into all the arrangements. After all it was a great chance for him to build his reputation as an eligible wedding planner in the city. The food was appreciated by one and all and there was no dearth of choices as one knows how diverse Indian delicacies can get.
Tanya and Rishi, standing beneath the decorous Mandap, could not believe that this was actually happening, that in few moments they were to lead their lives forever in each other’s embrace.
