Seema Kapoor revealed that she got to know about Om Puri's affair with a house help just a day before their wedding, but she didn't have the courage to cancel the wedding.
Om Puri and Seema Kapoor got married back in 1990, and after a few months of their marriage, they got separated, given the actor's link-up with Nandita Puri. Seema got to know about the same when she was pregnant with her and Om Puri's child. Seema wanted to mend things with Om Puri despite his affair with Nandita, but she had to finally walk out of the marriage, and during the legal proceedings, she also lost her child. In a recent interview, Seema Kapoor bared her heart out and revealed that she got to know about Om Puri's affair with a house help, a day before their wedding.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Seema Kapoor revealed that she and Om Puri got engaged in 1989, and their families rushed them into getting married. The couple had been together for over a decade before they tied the knot. She shared that her brother, Annu Kapoor was left upset with the fact that he had to learn about his favourite sister's engagement through someone else. She further shared that while phones weren't that common back then, Om Puri revealed his affair with the house help to her just before their wedding. Seema Kapoor can be quoted as saying:
"We got engaged in 1989, and I don’t know why, but both families rushed us into getting married. Annu bhaiya (Annu Kapoor) was away shooting, and he was very upset that he got to know about his favourite sister’s engagement through another person. In those days, phones weren’t common. Just before the wedding, he told me about his relationship with the house help."
Talking more about the same, Seema Kapoor revealed how her reaction was to this revelation. She stated that the invites had been sent out, and they were going to have a reception as well. She further shared that her parents were highly respected in their small town, and all of it just stopped her from cancelling the wedding. Seema stated that women these days are far more courageous, but she, back then, didn't know what to do after knowing about the affair only a day before the wedding. In Seema Kapoor's words:
"The invites had been sent out, we were going to have a reception as well. We were in a small town, Jhalawar, where my parents were highly respected individuals. He took me aside to the river and said that he needed to tell me something. I didn’t have the courage to cancel the wedding one day before it was supposed to happen. Women these days are far more courageous; some of them back out even during the rituals."
Going further in the same interview, Om Puri's ex-wife, Seema Kapoor shared that she needed some time to process the information she got, and she had no idea why Om Puri revealed it to her just a day before the wedding as if he would have done this before, then things would have been different. She stated that this is how the feudal male minds work by being honest and giving the girls the agency to decide what to do. But Seema refused to say that Om Puri played any kind of mind games with her. Seema can be quoted as saying:
"I needed some time to process the information. I didn’t understand why he’d told me then; perhaps if he’d told me sooner, things would’ve been different. This is how a feudal male mind works; they try to gaslight you into thinking that they’ve been honest and given you the agency to decide, but I don’t think he was the sort of man who’d play mind games."
Seema Kapoor also revealed that if this would happen now, then she would probably refuse to marry Om Puri. She also stated that her ex-husband couldn't handle the delicate situations and would end up hurting others. She revealed that in his final years, they connected again after he apologised to her about how he treated her.
