Shah Rukh Khan once made a shocking revelation about his beloved wife, Gauri Khan. The actor said he didn't think she would make a good mom before they had kids! Find out why.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s love story is one that has made all of us dream of having our own fairytale romances someday. The 'IT couple' have spent 33 wonderful years together and now share three children, namely Aryan, Suhana, and Abram. Interestingly, though, the 'Badshah' of Bollywood didn’t think Gauri would make a good mother before they welcomed their kiddos.
During one appearance on Koffee With Karan, Shah Rukh Khan left everybody stunned with a confession he made. The star revealed that he had never thought his wife, Gauri would make a good mother before they had kids. In his words:
"Surprisingly, I never thought Gauri would be a good mother. She doesn’t come across as a children friendly lady. She’s not coochie-cooing, I mean she’s not a typical… you see girls really liking kids. So I was quite surprised, pleasantly surprised that she is an absolutely wonderful mother."
Shah Rukh then elaborated on how the couple’s life changed since having kids. According to him, Gauri as a mother was the perfect balance for him as a father. She made things 'sensible, simple', and 'very middle-class' for their kids, which he appreciated.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s firstborn, Aryan arrived in 1997. And in an interview the following year in 1998, with Rediff, Shah Rukh confessed that he had been quite scared for his wife and the mother of his son, Gauri. Revealing that he had been in the room when Aryan was conceived, the talented actor said:
"I went with her to the operation theatre for her Caesarean. And I thought she’d die. Didn’t even think about the kid at that point in time. It wasn’t important to me. She was shivering so much and I know logically that you don’t die while giving birth to babies. But still, I just got a little scared."
In the same interview, Shah Rukh Khan talked about why he had chosen the name 'Aryan' for his son. And the reason was the girls he would impress in the future! In SRK’s words:
"I thought when he tells a girl that my name is Aryan, Aryan Khan, she’ll be really impressed."
The then-new dad also revealed that baby Aryan looked like a mix of him and Gauri. In particular, the tiny tot had taken his expressions from his actor dad. He further confessed that he had not changed any diapers since Aryan’s birth.
Shah Rukh Khan has always been loud and proud about his love for films, even saying that he would like to act until the day he died. Yet, his love for his wife, Gauri is far stronger. In a 1992 interview with Stardust, Shah Rukh adorably said that Gauri would always come first, and if he ever had to pick between her and his career, he would choose her any day.
