Shahid Kapoor retrospected about his dancing journey and recalled how he initially used to be shy dancer.
Shahid Kapoor is one of the most phenomenal actors of his generation in Bollywood. The handsome hunk rules millions of hearts with his charming personality, good looks, and swift dance moves. Over the years of his filmography, the actor has showcased his incomparable versatility, and people have been mesmerised by his change from a chocolate boy to a rugged man. In his personal life, Shahid is married to Mira Rajput Kapoor, and the duo is blessed with a daughter, Misha and a son, Zain.
In an interaction with India Today to promote his upcoming film, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Shahid Kapoor looked back on when his passion for dancing developed. The actor revealed that he began to realise his love for dance at 15 and remarked that he was an ordinary, shy teenager who used to dance in the corner of a room. Emphasising how it was his mother, Neeliima Azeem, who motivated him to follow his passion, Shahid said:
“I was like a regular 15-year-old. I was very shy. Didn't have guts. I always used to dance in one corner at every party. It was my mom who noticed my love for dance. She was a classical dancer. She put me in Shiamak Davar class. She told me to be confident in whatever I love to do.''

Following up on the conversation, Shahid Kapoor talked about his mother, Neeliima Azeem, who had been a trained classical dancer. He hilariously added that doing a classical dance was too much for him, whereas his mother used to practice for seven to eight hours. In his words:
“I remember my mother used to dance for 7-8 hours. She used to do 100 'chakkars' during her classical session. I also danced for 8-10 hours and did a lot of dancing between the ages of 15-21.''
Back in the 90s, Shahid Kapoor was popularly referred to as the chocolate boy for his handsome looks in films. However, the actor didn’t like such kind of objectification. Speaking more about it, Shahid, in an earlier interview with Bollywood Hungama, mentioned how he didn’t want people to focus on just his looks and wardrobe choices. He further asserted that he wished people paid attention to his work and understand that he is an artist.

Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon have been taking the internet by storm with glimpses from their upcoming film, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. However, for quite some time now, the actor has been criticised for being conscious about his height compared to Kriti Sanon. Netizens have, in fact, even highlighted how Shahid wore heels in his film to match up with his co-star. In a promotional interview for the film, Shahid gave a witty reply when a journalist tried to height-shame him and suggested if he wished to be 2 inches taller. To this, the actor suggested that even women wear heels and said:
“Toh women want to be six inches higher."
