Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh's cold war reportedly started at an award show as the latter bagged the award, which the 'Kabir Singh' actor was initially promised.
Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are contemporaries, who worked together in the film, Padmaavat. Reportedly, they had a feud during the shooting of the film and shot their scenes separately. However, time and again, Ranveer and Shahid rubbished speculation of a feud between them and maintained that there were no cold vibes on the Padmaavat sets. But not many know that Shahid once walked out of an award show after he was denied an award, which was later given to Ranveer.
Back in 2019, a report by Pinkvilla stated that the Kabir Singh actor was scheduled to perform at an award show and was also expected to win the Best Actor Award. However, things reportedly turned ugly when the award was eventually given to Ranveer Singh. Shahid was so pissed that he cancelled his performance and walked out of the venue. The source was quoted as saying:
"It was an understanding that Shahid will perform because he was bagging the award. He had rehearsed for the performance too. The award was then presented to Ranveer Singh and Shahid then supposedly walked out of the show. He was to perform but he decided not to record his performance as well."
The source further mentioned that Shahid Kapoor was upset with the organisers for their unprofessional behaviour and accused them of sneakily changing the whole scenario. The actor lost his cool over the incident and decided not to react to the same. The source added:
"Shahid apparently lost his cool on the organisers because it was an unprofessional move on their part to sneakily change the whole scenario. He was reportedly very upset with how the whole thing was addressed."
After Shahid's exit from the show, the organisers were looking for his replacement to fill the performance slot for the final edit, which was to be telecasted on TV later. Later, a report by ETimes revealed that Varun Dhawan agreed to perform and shot the dance sequence. The source added:
"Varun was a thorough professional and saved the day by committing to this event. Despite shooting for Coolie No. 1 early morning and having a long schedule he agreed to come in late and shoot his song. Varun danced to a song from Street Dancer 3D."
Reports about a cold war between Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor kept doing the rounds in the media. Once, Shahid even mentioned that he was scared to enter into a space where his co-actors, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, were already so comfortable, as the duo had already worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali before. In an interview with Filmfare, when Ranveer was asked about his cold war with Shahid, he said:
"To be honest, I did my best to welcome him and did whatever I could do to be a supportive co-actor. But I think it's got to do with the genre as well. I think Padmaavat is Shahid's first costume drama and a costume drama has its own set of unique challenges, which I had faced during Bajirao Mastani. It takes some time to get adapted to it. I think he's reacting to that.”
