Shakti Kapoor opened up about his marriage with wifey, Shivangi Kolhapure, and recalled that they got married despite having severe differences and family objections.
Shakti Kapoor is renowned to be one of the famous hit villains of the Hindi film industry. Garnering massive stardom, his portrayal of the character, ‘Crime Master Gogo’ in the film, Andaz Apna Apna has a separate fan base even today. However, when it comes to his personal life, the actor, in his real world, is totally the opposite of the roles that he has played on-screen. Being extremely humble and polite, Shakti Kapoor is happily married to the talented actress, Shivangi Kolhapure. The duo is parents to their children, Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor, both of whom are notable actors in Bollywood as well.
In a recent interview with DD Urdu, Shakti Kapoor opened up about his love story with wifey, Shivangi Kolhapure, and termed it no less than that of Romeo and Juliet. Emphasising about having a massive age gap of 12 years with Shivangi, Shakti remembered crossing paths with her for a film, where she was a child artist and he played her grandfather. In his words:
“It was a long story since our first meeting, a tale akin to Romeo and Juliet. at that time, she was playing a child artist's role in a film, while I was portraying her grandfather's role.”

For the unversed, Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kolhapure tied the knot in 1982, when the latter was barely 18 years old. Shivangi had kickstarted her career in films from an early age, and worked as a child artist for the initial years. However, recalling one such time, Shakti mentioned how right before their marriage, Shivangi, despite getting a lot of good opportunities declined them, only to be taken up instead by Poonam Dhillon. In his words:
“Before our marriage, she was offered 4-5 lead roles as a heroine, but she declined them, and later, Poonamji played those parts."
In the same interview, Shakti Kapoor opened up on facing a lot of trials and tribulations, leading up to his marriage with Shivangi Kolhapure. He mentioned that apart from the severe age gap and other cultural differences that they had, their families particularly objected to this match. Moreover, there was the added reputation of Shakti’s popularity as an on-screen villain, which was a big no-no for Shivangi’s family. He mentioned:
“However, our families were not in favour, considering my on-screen villainous image. But we went ahead with the wedding, seeking the blessings of the Almighty.”

In the concluding segment of the interview, Shakti Kapoor opened up about a rather hilarious anecdote pertaining to his marital life with Shivangi Kolhapure. He mentioned whenever the latter got upset with him, he used to say his famous catch-phrase, ‘Nanha sa, pyaara sa, chota sa baccha hu’, that would instantly melt her heart and they would reconcile amicably.
