In a recent interview, Shankar Mahadevan opened up about his journey from being an engineer to bagging the Grammys for the country.
Celebrations are in full swing as the fusion group, Shakti, featuring Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain, was awarded the prestigious Grammy for Best Global Music Album. Since then, the artists have been receiving appreciation and congratulatory messages for their achievements. Now, in an interaction, Shankar has reacted to his big win and also talked about his journey from being a software engineer to bringing a Grammy for India.
In an interview with the Times Now Group Editor-in-chief, Navika Kumar, Shankar Mahadevan was asked to shed light on his journey from engineering to Grammys. Talking about the same, Shankar said that he was a software engineer in the US, but he opted to switch his career to music. He further revealed how his engineer friends reacted to his big win at the Grammys and shared:
"It's been a wonderful journey, I was a software engineer. Just sharing a small story. I would have been in the US just developing software for some international firm. 40 of my engineering buddies from all over America flew in and got together before the award function and celebrated. We had a party. I told them Boss, I'm just nominated. They said, no, for us you already won. We had a huge lunch and celebrated. Can you imagine? that is the love from my engineering community."

Shankar Mahadevan shared that when he started his music journey, he collaborated with the best musicians in the world, Ehsaan and Loy, and did jingles with them. The trio has been working together for the last 28 years and has given some of the most soulful tracks to the Indian music industry. In his words:
"From there I started doing jingles with my partners Ehsaan and Loy, who are the best musicians in the world. We have been out there as Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy for the last 28 years creating music for all of you. Yeah, we have done reasonable amount of good work. It's the body of work that speaks for any artist."
Reflecting back on his journey, Shankar Mahadevan shared that he still has a lot to do and he is proud of what he has achieved in his life. The Grammy-winning singer further talked about his future plans and revealed what all he wants to do for the music lovers. Shankar said:
"When you look back we should say it's not bad. I have a lot more to do. It's nothing like we have arrived at the end of our careers. From collaborations, interesting musical genres, creating new platforms for people who listen to music with depth and good singing, good arrangement with good artists is what I want to do in the future."

Shankar Mahadevan and his wife, Sangeeta Mahadevan dated each other for over ten years before deciding to tie the knot in 1992. By this time, Shankar had quit his job as he wanted to venture into the music industry and Sangeeta stood by him rock solid. Soon after their first wedding anniversary, Shankar and Sangeeta welcomed their elder son, Siddharth in 1993. They were blessed with a second child in 2001.
