Shannon K, daughter of legendary singer, Kumar Sanu, makes history by being the first Indie-Indian origin singer to perform at the Coachella 2025. Read on to know more about her.
Singer-actor, Shannon K is all set to perform at Coachella alongside Bollywood singing sensations, Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon. Shannon K, daughter of legendary Bollywood singer, Kumar Sanu, is on her way to create history as she will be the first Indie Indian-origin artist to represent India at the Coachella Festival in April, 2025. The festival will be held at the Empire Polo Club of Indio, California, from April 11, 2025 to April 13, 2025 and from April 18, 2025 to April 20, 2025. The estimated crowd who will be joining the iconic Coachella Festival are to be around 120,000 music lovers.
It is a proud moment for Shannon K as she makes her debut at Coachella 2025 and is among one of the few Indian talents to perform at the event. Shannon expressed her excitement to perform at the Coachella 2025. In a press note shared by her team, the American singer said that the iconic event is just the beginning of something unbelievable. She also expressed that being extremely talented and hardworking, Indians want to make their music heard, and it’s their dream too. Addressing the same, she said:
"It's in the bucket list of every Indian-origin Indie artist working hard to break the boundaries and make their music heard. Indians are extremely talented. Indian music, while rooted in Indian classical to RnB and pop, is underrated. This is the beginning of something incredible and I'm so excited for it".
In her Coachella debut, Shannon will be seen performing a fusion of her original indie-pop songs and some most iconic Bollywood blockbusters of her father, Kumar Sanu. Her performance list includes songs like Give Me Your Hand, A Longtime, Always, Run, Retrace, OMT and many more. The song, Give Me Your Hand, is a massive hit that gave her international recognition, and she also won the Best International Singer Award.
Born on June 16, 2001, Shannon studied music at the Royal Academy of Music, London. She has also acted at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in the US. Then, she did a collaboration with music producer, Kyle Townsend in support of victims of bullying. In 2018, Shannon collaborated with legendary singer, Sonu Nigam and released the love song, OMT. She made her debut as an actress in American movies with a cameo role in Manolo Vergara’s, The Big Feed. She has also worked on a TV series, Mystical Inheritance of Adina Hassan, with American actor, Ryan Kelley and a short film, Rolling. She also made her debut as an actress in Bollywood with the film, Chal Zindagi.
Shannon K is legendary singer, Kumar Sanu’s adopted daughter. In an interview with India Today, she once recalled her childhood days when she had a fun time when her father used to come home. They used to have family outings as well. Addressing the same, she mentioned:
"Not having him every day in my life was definitely like something was missing. For example, he used to come when I was 12 and the next time he came, I would be 14. He would be like, ‘wait, how did you grow so fast?’ But it’s the sort of connection we have. We call each other every day and have fun conversations. When he is with us, we go out for family outings. We spend a lot of time together. We understand that it’s his work and that’s how it’s supposed to be. My mom has also coped with that for 24 years now. It’s been a long-distance relationship. It’s solely based on understanding and love."
