Sharmila Tagore remembered being pregnant with Saif Ali Khan when she was shooting for 'Aradhna' with Rajesh Khanna.
Evergreen veteran star, Sharmila Tagore's chemistry with Rajesh Khanna can never be forgotten. They were known as the 'it-on-screen' pair for decades. However, do you know the actress was pregnant with Saif Ali Khan while shooting for Aradhna with the legendary actor, Rajesh?
During an interview with Subhash K Jha for the Free Press Journal, Sharmila remembered her notable performances with Rajesh Khanna in many movies. Their unique bond had set fire on the screens, and she recollected how Aradhna had given her newfound stardom. The actress also shared a personal note related to her pregnancy. In her words:
"Kaka and I did many films together. We really worked well together. I was pregnant with Saif during Aradhana and with Soha when Kaka and I did Choti Bahu."
Going further in the interview, Sharmila revealed that she had two big issues with 'Kaka' aka Rajesh Khanna. The late actor was not punctual on the sets of the movies. Sharmila and Rajesh were one of the hit pairs of Hindi cinema. Aradhna (1969) made Rajesh a megastar and the movie is best known for the song, Mere Sapno Ki Rani . Sharmila added:
"Kaka and I had two major problems. He came much too late on the sets and our best profile on camera was the same. So when we were in the same frame together Kaka and I were always trying to get the cameraman to shoot our right profile."
Sharmila, in the audiobook titled Rajesh Khanna: Ek Tanha Sitara, revealed that she used to reach the sets at 8 Am and wanted to be with her family by 8 pm. However, Rajesh Khanna did not respect her time as he would not arrive on the sets before noon. Sharmila had quipped:
"But this was impossible since Kaka never arrived before 12 for a 9 am shift. And we could never finish on time. As a result, the entire unit would pressurerise me to work overtime and complete the schedule. This became the norm and since I had many films with Kaka, I found myself in a quandary."
Sharmila and Rajesh did films like Safar in 1970 where they showcased a pair facing a major illness. They also did Daag in 1973, which was about sacrificing in love. Despite the pair being a hit, the actress did decide to work with other stars. She had said that even Rajesh felt that having so many movies with one particular actress was not a great idea. Sharmila had said:
"One runs the risk of becoming stale. Whatever it was, we found ourselves working together in fewer films. And I must confess it was a huge relief."
