Beauty isn't measured in kilos or pounds, it is measured in the soul of a being, but sadly, we often judge someone with the curves on their body. Scroll down as Sharmin Segal recalls her journey!
In a world that judges women by their colour, height, and size, we wonder what true beauty means for them. And we truly believe that all women are gorgeous in their own way. So, it doesn't matter whether you are 50 kgs or 80 kgs. Embrace your curves and features as they are custom-made by God especially for you all. Recently, Sharmin made her acting debut with Malaal, which is the remake of Tamil film, 7G Rainbow Colony (2004). In the film, the gorgeous actress can be seen romancing the Jaaved Jaaferi's son, Meezaan. She was working as an assistant director before she got bitten by the acting bug. But not many know, she has always admired the glory of portraying roles and has always been in love with the art of enacting.
Recently, in an interview with BollywoodLife, Sharmin talked about her school days and how she fell in love with acting. She said "I was an assistant director for about three years. Initially, I worked on Mary Kom and then Bajirao Mastani. Since then, I had this 'chaska' for acting. I was very chubby in school, fat to be precise. I was double of what I am now, during my school days." (Also Read: Manish Naggdev Reveals If He Will Ever Be In A Relationship After Bitter Breakup With Srishty Rode)
Sharmin also shared how she got fat-shamed in school, and revealed, "In school, I never wanted to be fat because people used to make a lot of fun of me. Like, they would throw chits on me and I would cry. I aspired to be a doctor before I took up a theatre in my 11th standard. So, when I started doing theatre, they made gave me a guy's role for a particular play."
She further added, "I was given the role of a sidekick- the guy who is fat and made fun of. There were three boys in my school who would rag me a lot and make fun of me. While performing on the stage, I was looking at the audience where I saw those three boys laughing at me. It was at the moment I realised they were not laughing at 'Moti Sharmin', but at the character. This was exactly the moment when my acting ka 'chaska' started."
In another interview with the Hindustan Times, Sharmin had talked in detail about being fat-shamed, and had stated, "I was really fat for 13-14 years of my life. There were kids in school who used to make fun of me from the ages of 11-18, until I graduated from school."
In the same interview, Sharmin had also revealed that it doesn't matter if you are fat and an actor, " People say body-shaming and all that is wrong, and you should be confident of your body, but I wasn't. After being bullied for 15 years of my life, I wasn't confident. People have asked me, 'Is it wrong to be fat and an actor?' I said, 'No. If you are happy and confident, and you can look into a mirror in the morning and say haan main achchi lag rahi hoon, then that's your personal choice."
In another interview, Sharmin had shared that she doesn't think that she deserves to work with her uncle, Sanjay, and had stated, "As a four-year-old, I would go on Sanjay sir's set and say 'I want to sit on Aishwarya Rai's lap today.' After assisting him on Bajirao Mastani, I understood what a great man he is, what his contribution is to Hindi cinema. As an assistant, you understand the teamwork that goes behind making an actor look the way they look."
She had further added, "I call him Sanjay sir only because I think he deserves that respect. For me, he became a 'sir' when I watched Devdas at the age of 17. I thought to myself 'What kind of a man is he?' He is so brilliant. I feel privileged that I am related to him and he has given me a chance to prove my capabilities to the world."
