Shefali Shah opened up about facing street harassment at a very young age and recalled getting scared after it.
One of the most talented actresses in the entertainment industry, Shefali Shah has portrayed many female-centric roles in her career. Be it playing an abused victim in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding or donning the cap of a fierce cop in Delhi Crime, Shefali Shah has often proved her versatility as an actress.
Not just in films, Shefali has been a strong advocate of women’s equality and rights. At the L’Oréal Paris event, which talked about combatting street harassment, Shefali opened up about facing street harassment at a young age. Speaking to News18 Showsha, Shefali revealed how it happened to her when she was coming back from school and stated:
“Yes, and I think most of us have. I remember when I was really young, and in the market, coming back from school, I faced it. And I couldn’t do anything about it. I was too young and I was just scared and no one stood up. I mean, it was crowded, but that’s not a justification but I guess almost women have somewhere dealt with it.”

In the same conversation, Shefali also highlighted that one needs to raise their sons sensibly to make their daughters safe. In her words:
“Whether I am a celebrity figure or not, I genuinely believe our daughters would be safe if our sons are raised right, and I have two sons. It’s my responsibility to raise them right. And now we don’t even talk about our daughters being safe. We just talk about people being safe, respected and not harassed. And for that, I’ve got to raise two good wonderful sensitive individuals.”
A few months back, Shefali Shah opened up about facing molestation in a public place. She also recalled an incident and stated that she was touched in a wrong manner in a crowded market, but she never spoke about it because it was shameful. The actress also revealed how woman starts to question themselves when something like this happens as she thinks about whether she had done anything to invite such actions.

Talking about Shefali Shah’s personal life, she was first married to actor, Harsh Chhaya in 1997, and within a few months, their marriage turned sour. After staying together for four years, they parted ways in 2000. After her divorce from Harsh, Shefali found love in the arms of film producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The couple is blessed with two sons, Maurya and Aryaman.
On the professional front, Shefali Shah was nominated at the International Emmy Awards 2023 for Best Performance by an Actress for her performance in the series Delhi Crime 2.
