Shilpa Shetty remembers the frequent times back in the 90s, when she was left unpaid in many of the films in which she worked.
Shilpa Shetty is one of the most successful divas in Bollywood. Known for her perfectly enviable physique, sizzling dance moves and exceptional acting mettle, Shilpa has etched a special place in the hearts of audiences since the 90s. She made her debut in the 1993-hit release, Baazigar and she hasn’t looked back since then. Currently, Shilpa is gearing up for her next release, Sukhee. In her personal life, Shilpa is married to Raj Kundra and the duo is blessed with a son, Viaan and a daughter, Samisha.
In a candid chat with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Shilpa Shetty recalled a difficult phase in her life, and mentioned how back in the 90s, she was frequently left unpaid by many filmmakers. The actress revealed how under the pretext of incurring losses at the box-office, producers would pay her half the fees and cut down on the remaining. In her words:
“There are films of the 90s which I worked in, and the producers would say, ‘Oh, we incurred losses.’ So, I didn’t get the remaining fees also. That time was very different.”

Speaking along the same lines, Shilpa then mentioned how, during a significant period of her career, she wouldn’t land opportunities under big production banners. She credited small films and producers who gave her work and boasted of a stellar star cast nevertheless. Moreover, she also credited a fair share of her success to the frequent songs and item dances she became a part of, which made her hugely successful more than even her films. She mentioned:
“I have had a long career with so many lows that I used to wonder, ‘Why didn’t I get offered this role or why was I never offered a film with big banners?’ Whatever I have achieved is by working in small films with big actors. I did small characters and no matter whether my films worked or not, all my songs were hits. I am surviving because of my songs.”
In one of her earlier interviews with Zoom Entertainment, Shilpa Shetty spoke about how it was all her item songs, which made her be singularly identified in the glamour world. Crediting some of her chartbuster songs, such as UP Bihar Lootne, Shut Up And Bounce among others, Shilpa highlighted those enabled her to be easily recognised amongst the audience, way more than being an actress.

During the promotion of her upcoming film, Sukhee, Shilpa Shetty revealed a special anecdote about her husband, Raj Kundra, about her next release. The diva mentioned how her husband motivated and convinced her to do the film, when she wasn’t really intending to do it in the first place.
