The honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi has announced the 21-days lockdown pan-India on March 24, 2020, in order to control the mass spreadability of COVID-19. March 25, 2020, had marked the beginning of Chaitra Navratri that is considered auspicious in Hindu religion. Despite the lockdown, people still managed to keep fast for 7 consecutive days, marking its eighth day today, known as Durga Ashtami. Ashtami is celebrated as a day, people who have observed the fast, treat kids with Indian delicacy halwa-poori in order to complete their fast. As the country is dealing with lockdown, it is impossible to bring kids home and feed them, so Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty Kundra decided to celebrate Durga Ashtami in her own style. Just like many of us, Bollywood celebrities are also busy cooking, cleaning and doing other activities to follow the lockdown and social distancing. As it is the 8th day of Navratri, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who is fasting on Durga Ashtami tried her hands at makhana and gud ki barfi as an offering to goddess Durga. The actress took to her Instagram handle to share the recipe of the same with her fans.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who has been spending time at her home with her family during the lockdown, took to her social media handle to wish her fans on Durga Ashtami and talked about her prasad offering for goddess Durga. The actress in a long post wrote, “Today marks the 8th day of the Chaitra Navratri, which is known as Durga Ashtami… I always prepare the Prasad personally. So tried the Makhana and Gur ki Barfi as an offering this time.” She further shared the recipe of makhana and gud ki barfi, “Happy to share details of the recipe, if you’d like to make this sweet at home too. Also, can be had during the fast. Ingredients: 1 1/2cups Roasted makhana (Fox Nuts), 1/2 cup Roasted chopped cashews, 1/2 cup Roasted chopped almonds, 2 tbsp Roasted pistachios, 3 tbsp crushed Flaxseeds, 1 tsp crushed saunf (fennel seeds), 4 crushed elaichi (green cardamom), 1/2 cup desiccated coconut. For Sweet syrup: 1 cup water, 1 cup jaggery (gur), 4 tbsp sugar, 4 green crushed elaichi Grease a plate with ghee.” Check out her post below for the recipe:
Shilpa also prayed for strength to deal with these testing times that the world is going through. Shilpa often shares her cooking and Sunday-binge videos that introduces us to some yummy food. During lockdown also, Shilpa has kept herself occupied with various activities including cooking. Shilpa had baked a chocolate heart cake with her son, Viaan. She had posted a video of his baking journey and had written, "Spending time with Viaan usually entails a baking/cooking session once a week. He loves to experiment and whip up healthy, easy-to-make recipes in his free time. We use this heart-shaped mould to show it’s made with love... This time around, we baked the gluten-free “chocolate heart cake” with coconut sugar, celebrating this time together. Bake the quarantine blues away. Every day well spent. Since I have more time on hand, I found these pics from the past to show how time flies, but something’s don’t change.
