"The year 2019 will be forever significant for me. About seven months ago, I wanted to end my life. I saw no ray of hope and nothing really mattered anymore. And then, after walking through a dark tunnel for eight months, I finally saw a hint of light and began to resurrect myself. Last year, depression got the better of me. I would lock myself up in a dark room and spend days on the terrace all by myself. I stopped reading and listening to music. I could not accept anyone’s presence in my life. But this solitude was killing me from inside. Despite this mental state, I had to drag myself to the recording studios, concerts and rehearsals. What was crushing me from inside was that I could not talk to anyone. In those months, I did not interact much, abandoned all my friends and suffered all alone."

In the same conversation, Iman mentioned that she was also not able to talk about the exact reason for her depression to her friends. She didn't blame anyone for being the cause of her depression. However, Iman mentioned that probably the pain due to her breakup triggered her depression. She added:

"When friends asked what led to this bout of depression, I’d tell them that I had no idea. Depression need not have any reason. I don’t blame anyone or anything. It is known that Shovan (Ganguly) and I parted ways last year. He took the call to end our relationship and move on. Perhaps I was not ready to accept it. We’ve always been friends and even after calling it quits, we continued to meet with other friends and worked on the same projects. In this period, I was confused as to whether our relationship was actually over. It could have been one of the initial triggers for the pain."

"Later, I realised that even I could have called off the relationship. My doctors explained to me that the onset of depression didn’t depend on a breakup, or on not getting work assignments or any such disappointment. Depression can happen anyway. Now, after all these months, I know it is not the end of the world for me. I am looking forward to a beautiful life and I want to enjoy every moment of it. In my case, things started changing for the better after I finally spoke to two of my friends. Thanks to them, I consulted a psychiatrist and a psychologist. After that, things finally started changing for the better. 2019 has made me a stronger person and I am totally in love with the new me."
