Shreyas Talpade who made 'Poster Boys' with Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol, recalled their states of mind when he approached them for the same. He said Bobby was at an all-time low.
Bobby Deol made his acting debut in 1995 with the film, Barsaat, co-starring Twinkle Khanna. The film was a box office hit and also led him to achieve the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Bobby then went on to star in films like Gupt, Soldier, Badal, Dillagi, Ajnabee, and many more. However, in the mid-2000s, his films tanked at the box office one after the other, and he took a sabbatical from acting.
Bobby returned to the silver screen in 2017 with Shreyas Talpade’s directorial debut, Poster Boys. Recently, Shreyas spoke at length about how he approached Bobby and Sunny Deol for the film and revealed their states of mind back then. He recalled that Bobby was not feeling well at that time and was struggling. While talking to Siddharth Kannan, Shreyas revealed:
“Yes, that was a time when Bobby, especially, was at an all-time low. He hadn’t worked for four years. And I remember when I first went to meet him for a narration, we just chit-chatted, because he wasn’t in that frame of mind… He was very low. ‘Maine kaam nahi kiya, mujhe confidence nahi hai, kya karun,’ he said. So, we didn’t do the narration. Next day, I went again and got through the first half. And then I returned the day after that and finished the second half.”

Further, Shreyas reminisced about Bobby's transformation and said that he had organised a reading session at 11, saying that it would be just two of them. He was taken aback when Bobby walked in at the exact time with a trimmed beard. Shreyas said at that moment he felt that he had gotten back his old Bobby Deol. The actor-turned-filmmaker also recalled his experience of working with Sunny Deol. He said:
“We’d heard stories about Sunny Paaji, that the schedules would go on forever, but it was nothing like that. We finished the film in 30 days. His work was for 26 days. We had a 7 am shift, he’d show up at 6:30, get ready in five minutes, and we’d be shooting on time.”

The 2023 proved to be very fruitful for the Deol brothers. On one hand, Sunny’s Gadar 2 smashed the box office records. The film amassed nearly Rs. 700 crore worldwide. On the other hand, Bobby Deol received much appreciation for his antagonistic role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film, Animal, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. The film earned around Rs. 900 crore globally.
During their appearance on Kapil Sharma’s Netflix show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, Sunny Deol talked about the hardships they faced in the industry. He recalled the limelight that the entire Deol family garnered in 2023 and said:
“1960 se limelight mein hai par kayee saal ho gaye koshish kar rahe the par somehow kuch cheezein ho nahi rahi thi. Mere bete ki shaadi huyi, uske baad Gadar ayi, uske pehle papa ki film ayi. Kuch yakeen nahi ho raha tha ke Rab kitho aa gaya! Uske baad Animal ayi, phatte hee chak de.”
