Shruti Haasan recently revealed about her spiritual journey and finding faith. She recalled how her parents forbade her from visiting temples.
Shruti Haasan is an Indian actress and singer who predominantly works in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil films. The actress has received numerous accolades for her achievements in the film fraternity and has also appeared in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list for two consecutive years. The actress is the daughter of the stellar actors, Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. She recently opened up about her spiritual journey and shared how she found her faith.
Shruti Haasan recently sat for an insightful conversation with Pinkvilla and discussed details of her spiritual and faith journey. She revealed how spirituality became a cornerstone of her strength and identity. During the conversation, the actress shared how faith was not a part of her family inheritance but a personal discovery. Shruti added that her faith in the higher power was what made her resilient. She further added that her family doesn't believe in God, and despite her mother, Sarika Thakur, being a spiritual person, her dad was an atheist. She was quoted saying:
"My faith in God. My home is more of an atheist home. My mum is spiritual, but my dad is never. So we never had the concept of God while growing up, I discovered it myself. I very much believe in the power of God, and that power of God has taken me through many things in my life."
Shruti Haasan revealed that her father, Kamal Haasan, was a staunch atheist, and Sarika, who was inclined toward spirituality, gave her an open environment at home. However, her spiritual journey took a turn she had not imagined. Shruti humorously shared that her exploration of faith began covertly. She reflected on a childhood memory and revealed how she used to ride her bicycle in her colony. However, she was instructed not to go near the main gate. She further shared the anecdote and stated:
"In our colony, there was a lane where I used to ride my bicycle. I was asked not to ride near the main gate... For some reason, every morning, I would hear the church and temple bells around the same time, and I would wonder which one I would reach first. The temple was too far away from my house, so I used to visit the church once a week. Nobody at home came to know at least for 5-6 months. The thing with kids is that if you tell them not to do something, they do it even more. In my case, it was religion."
During the conversation, Shruti Haasan also shared one of her cherished memories with her late grandfather. She revealed that it was her first visit to a temple, and her grandfather had taken her. She added that the latter had told her not to tell her father, Kamal Haasan, about the visit. She stated:
"My first visit to a temple was with my grandfather, who took me to a temple in Chennai. He had told me not to tell my father that he had brought me to a temple. Shortly after that, my grandfather passed away. I always had a connection with my grandfather and a temple, which became a spiritual connection."
