In a piece of sad news, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai actress, Shubhangi Atre's ex-husband, Piyush Poorey, passed away on April 19, 2025, due to liver issues. Piyush, for a long time, was suffering from liver cirrhosis, according to an ETimes report. Even during the last days of his life, he was reportedly not keeping good health. The pair got married back in 2003 and were together for 22 years. It was on February 5, 2025, that Shubhangi and Piyush were granted a divorce.

A source close to Shubhangi told the same publication that she and Piyush were not talking to each other. However, she has been in a state of shock, mourning the loss of her former husband, with whom she spent 22 years. Shubhangi is a strong lady and has not let her work affect her current situation, as the source shared that the actress has resumed shooting for her hit sitcom show, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai. She has joined the sets from April 20, 2025, a day after the demise of her ex-husband. When the publication reached out to the actress, she said:

"Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this.”

For the unversed, Shubhangi's former husband, Piyush, was a digital marketing professional. The ex-couple also has a daughter together who came into their lives in 2006. They named her Ashi.

When Shubhangi Atre spoke about her divorce from Piyush Poorey

Shubhangi is going through a tough time emotionally and has requested privacy to talk about the situation. Piyush's demise has affected her deeply, despite her not being on talking terms with him. However, earlier during an interview with the Bombay Times, Shubhangi shared that her separation from Piyush was all things painful. In her words:

"I was fully invested in the relationship. Over time, Piyush and I developed irreconcilable differences. However, now, I’m out of that marriage, and I feel a sense of peace as if a heavy burden has been lifted. Now, I want to focus on my daughter and provide her with a happy and secure environment.”

Shubhangi had also stated that it had been almost a year since she and Piyush had not stayed together under the same roof. Shubhangi confessed to trying her best to save their marriage and felt that mutual respect, companionship, trust, and friendship are the foundation of a strong marriage. However, both of them realised that their differences could not be resolved and decided to give each other space and concentrate on their individual lives and careers.

Shubhangi's late former husband, Piyush, was already undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis. The actress, who is heartbroken and shared earlier in the same interview of feeling very peaceful when she stepped out of her marriage. Shubhangi added:

"However, now, I'm out of that marriage, and I feel a sense of peace as if a heavy burden has been lifted. Now, I want to focus on my daughter and provide her with a happy and secure environment."
