Take a look at this gorgeous old photograph of Shweta Bachchan Nanda, where she shares a striking resemblance with her daughter, Navya Naveli Nanda!
It is often said that the daughters are the best mirrors of their mothers. This proverb not only holds true based on one’s nature and personality, but also significantly about the resemblance of the mother and daughter on several instances. Well, proof of the same is found in this case, between Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s old dated picture, which when placed in the same frame as her daughter, Navya’s picture, proved to be an accurate carbon copy.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s eldest daughter, Shweta added Nanda to her surname when she got married to the man of her dreams and Escorts Group CEO, Nikhil Nanda on February 16, 1997. And within a few months, the couple was blessed with their first child, their daughter, Navya Naveli Nanda. However, right before she welcomed her daughter into the world, the mommy-to-be had arranged for a photoshoot along with her mother, Jaya Bachchan. Interestingly, the duo twinned in royal white ensembles from the iconic designer duo, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. But what caught everyone’s notice was the fact that Shweta in her old photograph shared an uncanny resemblance with her daughter, Navya. The picture, shared by the designers themselves on their IG handle, had a detailed caption about the mommy-daughter’s outfit, and could be read as:
“1997: Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla designed their first ever wedding and created a new standard for celebration. For the wedding itself they broke with tradition and made white the epitome of bridal elegance! The duo dressed Shweta Bachchan Nanda in a delicate, white Chikan ensemble. Crafted in real silver and antique gota borders with Zardozi embroidery at the hem, the dress exquisitely complemented the bride’s fragile beauty. Seen with her is Jaya Bachchan wearing an entirely embroidered saree featuring Chikan jaali work in the Tagar flower motif. On her big day, Shweta mesmerized in a veil made of real flowers to complement her mother’s saree.”

While the image looked every bit royal and memorable, it also has another backstory to it. Well, the photograph was taken at a time when Shweta was heavily pregnant with her daughter, Navya. In fact, she gave birth to her just four days after the picture was clicked. This information was gathered through Shweta and Navya’s banter in the comment section of the post.
Well, Shweta Bachchan was perhaps one of the earliest brides who broke the record in wearing a stunning white-hued ensemble on her wedding festivities. The then-bride had chosen a stunning lehenga from the shelves of the designer duo, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla for her big day. While not many pictures are available from such an important celebration in the Bachchan household, it was quite later when the designers themselves shared some unseen pictures from the same. In the picture, Shweta looked stunning in a white ensemble, as she blushed slightly. Along with the picture, the designer duo elaborated on Shweta’s outfit and mentioned:
“1997: The Bride wore White! Shweta Bachchan exudes pristine grace in a spectacular floral veil and ornaments at her mehendi dressed in exquisitely intricate chikankari. A pathbreaking ensemble which made the statement that white is absolutely auspicious.”

Yet again, the designers, Abu and Sandeep had captioned it with a short backstory of the celebration, and mentioned:
“1997: A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Jaya Bachchan for sharing these pictures from Shweta and Nikhil's Sangeet with us. Their wedding was the first ever event done by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and the duo handled everything from decor to ensembles for each function for the entire Bachchan family. The Sangeet was an ode to Tradition at it's glorious best. And the ensembles a tribute to classical elegance and masterful craftsmanship. Shweta Bachchan wore a sumptuous gold brocade khinkhaab ghagra with gold zardozi vasli in a leafy tendril pattern. "It was a huge honour to have Mr and Mrs Bachchan entrust us with such an important occasion in the family. That they also gave us complete creative freedom was priceless. Well, to mark 33 years of AJSK creations, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla had ended their flashback nostalgia of celebrity weddings by posting some never-before-seen glimpses from Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda’s wedding in 1997. For the unversed, the duo had gotten married following Bengali customs, thereby honouring Jaya Bachchan’s hereditary Bengali roots. The entire Bachchan-Nanda clan had decked up in stunning outfits from Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. In fact, it seemed that even Jaya Bachchan dolled up in an extraordinary manner. Along with the pictures, the designer duo’s caption on elaborating everyone’s outfit, could be read as:
“The duo channeled their devotion to detail into every aspect of the fabulous arrangements. Both the couture and the decor reflected the magic of their maximalist philosophy. For the wedding ceremony, they created ensembles that were a celebration of regal grace and handcrafted embroideries. Shweta Bachchan wore a velvet ghagra and blouse in maroon. Tiny booties embroidered in resham, badla and crystals filled the lehenga. A French net dupatta with a floral border completed this deliciously romantic ensemble. And for the mother of the bride, Jaya Bachchan, an exquisite red bandhini ghagra sari with lavish floral zardozi embroidery.”
