Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan's daughter, Shweta Bachchan, once talked about not 'being financially independent' but wanting her kids, Navya and Agastya, to be financially independent.
Shweta Bachchan, daughter of Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, married Nikhil Nanda at the age of 21 and shifted to Delhi. In her professional life, she has carried forward the legacy of her grandfather, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and published her book Paradise Tower in 2016. Later, she tried her hand at fashion design and launched her brand with her best friend, Monisha Jaising. Recently, we stumbled upon an old video of Shweta in which she revealed how she is not financially independent.
Recently, we stumbled upon an old video of Shweta Bachchan, in which she talked about her idea of financial independence and how she wants her children to pay their own rent. In an old interaction with The Times of India, Shweta shared how she is financially dependent and not ambitious about it. However, she doesn't want the same for her children.
Shweta shared that she has sent her daughter, Navya, to school and set her up on a path where she can support herself, and this is the only wish she has from both her children. Shweta further affirmed that she would not allow them to settle down or get married till they had enough money in their bank account to pay rent for their own accommodation.
Shweta also added that she is sure that her daughter, Navya, needs financial security, as it will also give her confidence if she gets something on her own rather than her father's money. For the unversed, Navya is currently studying in IIM Ahmedabad and is also working in her father's business.

As soon as the video was published, netizens flooded the comments section. One user wrote, "Because she didn’t have it. aww, I feel bad for Shweta di here." Another one commented, "Worst nepo kid ever. At least others are making an effort to be independent, even if they're not great at acting. Swetha, on the other hand, she just lives of her dad's cash."
While some users pointed out how Shweta's father, Amitabh, didn't allow her to be financially independent, and married her off at a young, others blamed her mother, Jaya Bachchan. Taking Shweta's side, one user wrote, "From what I read, AB senior wasn't keen on her marrying so early, but Jaya pushed for it. I'm not blaming anyone as Jaya might have had her own reasons. Hindsight is 20/20, so it's possible she regrets her past choices now."
Someone also commented, "Imagine she was married off at 21 without having a rich and influential father to run to when things got bad. She would still be stuck in a marriage being financially dependent. Her parents will probably leave her just as much wealth as they are leaving to their son. She might not have achieved much, but she’s lucky she has independence and has to answer to no one. Something women in India just don’t have."
