Kedarnath Bhattacharya, also famous by the name Kumar Sanu, is an Indian music sensation. Kumar is the melody king of the 90s and has captivated us all with his magical voice. Iconic singer, Kumar Sanu rose to fame from the film, Aashiqui, which was released in 1990. Songs like Nazar Ke Samne, Dheere Dheere, Bas Ek Sanam Chahiye were among some amazing tracks that he had sung in the movie.
Kumar Sanu has sung thousands of Hindi songs. Not only Hindi, but the legend has also sung many soulful tracks in other languages. A few of his songs are still considered iconic to date, and these are Ek Ladki Ko Dekha, Tum Dil ki, Pardesi Pardesi, Yeh Kali Kaali Aankhein and others. Born on October 20th, 1957, in Kolkata, Kumar Sanu was born as the son of famous Bengali singer, Pashupati Bhattacharya. Since Kumar’s father himself was a singer and a musician, he trained Kumar in music and singing from an early age. As Kumar graduated, he left for Mumbai to pursue his career as a playback singer in Bollywood. However, he struggled for many years before he was noticed by the famous ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, who gave him a chance to show off his skills in Aandhiyan (1990). However, Kumar Sanu gained fame from the film, Aashiqui.
Kumar Sanu’s love life has been controversial. He has often been in the headlines for having an affair with many Bollywood actresses and marrying twice. First, he got married to Rita Bhattacharya in the late 80s. Kumar and Rita were blessed with three adorable kids, Jessy, Jeeko and Jaan. However, the couple divorced in 1994, as Rita felt that Kumar had another woman in his life except her. On their separation, Rita had retained the custody of her three children, and Kumar Sanu had accessed the rights to his children only by paying a fixed alimony per month.

Even though the singer had been married twice, he was still romantically involved with some Bollywood actresses. He had the shortest fling with actress, Kunika Lal and later found himself interested in actress, Meenakshi Seshadri. As reported by idiva, the singer’s involvement with popular actress, Meenakshi Seshadri, is considered the main reason for his and Rita’s separation. Kumar Sanu had met Meenakshi Seshadri at the premiere show of Mahesh Bhatt’s film, Jurm. They both dated for three long years, which later resulted in Rita and Kumar’s divorce. Kumar’s secretary had once confirmed it with a media portal, saying, “Kumar has many ‘girlfriends’ and for now, he is dating the popular actress Meenakshi Seshadri.” However, his relationship with Meenakshi did not turn into a marriage, as the actress later married investment banker, Harish Mysore.

It was later when Kumar Sanu again got married. He tied the knot with Saloni Bhattacharya, who belonged to a Bikaneri family in Rajasthan, with some of her family members settled in London. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Shannon and Ana. They currently reside with their mother in London, which is now the permanent home base. To date, Saloni Bhattacharya remains Kumar Sanu’s wife. His elder daughter, Shanon followed her father’s footsteps and released her English music album in 2014 in the UK. Kumar Sanu loves his little angels, Shanon and Ana. He often shares their pictures on his Instagram handle.

Kumar Sanu has remained a two-time record-breaker of the Guinness World record since 1993. The singer broke the record for singing the maximum number of songs in a day, which is 28 songs in 24hours, 161 songs in 30 days. And 1100 songs in a year.
Kumar Sanu has been awarded with the prestigious Padma Shri Award, which the Government of India gave for his distinguished contribution to the Indian Film Industry in the year 2009.

Kumar Sanu is surely a talented singer, he has not only sung popular Hindi songs, but you will be amused to know the number of languages he has sung in. These include Manipuri, Punjabi, Nepali, Assamese, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, etc. Apart from Indian regional songs, the melody king has also recorded a Spanish-Hindi album called ‘Amor’.

The singer had also tried his luck in Indian politics. Kumar Sanu had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004 in a ceremony headed by then Party President, Venkaiah Naidu. However, he later resigned as he wanted to concentrate only on his singing. On December 2nd, 2014, he rejoined BJP inducted by the famous BJP leader, Amit Shah. Although Kumar is a part of Indian politics, he hardly makes appearances in any political rallies.
