Recently, in an interview, Smriti Irani opened up about the hurtful experience of her miscarriage and shared how she was called to work hours after she was admitted to the hospital.
Actor-politician, Smriti Irani rose to fame after her portrayal of the role of 'Tulsi Virani' in Ekta Kapoor's television drama, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Later, she appeared in the popular show, Ramayan, where she played the role of 'Devi Lakshmi' as well as 'Sita'. While the schedule of Ekta's show was flexible as there were many other important characters to fill in, Ramayan revolved around Smriti's character.
In her recent interview, Smriti Irani opened up about her life as an actress, and especially, how it taught her a lesson about humanity. The actress recalled her painful experience of being called to work just a day after her miscarriage and added that how she was accused of lying about the same. Shedding light on the situation, Smriti also revealed how she was treated by the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi team, while Ramayan's director, Ravi Chopra asked her to take a rest.

In a recent conversation with Neelesh Misra on his show, The Slow Interview, Smriti Irani talked about her early days as an actress and recalled the time when she had her miscarriage. Talking about the same, the actress said that she didn't know about her pregnancy and when she felt unwell while shooting, the doctor asked her to get her sonography done. However, she started bleeding on the way, and upon reaching the hospital, she was shocked to see a nurse asking her for her autograph, instead of admitting her. In her words:
"I was not aware that I am pregnant. I was on the set of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and I told them I am not well enough to shoot and asked to be allowed to go home. But still, I worked, and by the time they let me go, it was evening already. The doctor suggested I go for sonography. On my way, I started bleeding, and I remember it was raining. I stopped an auto and asked the driver to take me to the hospital. I reached the hospital, a nurse came running to ask for an autograph, while I was bleeding. I gave her the autograph, and asked her, ‘Admit kar loge, I think I am miscarrying'.”
Further in the conversation, Smriti shared that back then she was working double shifts, as she was working with Ravi Chopra in Ramayan, followed by Balaji’s show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The actress recalled that the next day of her miscarriage, she got a call from the Balaji team, who asked her to return to work despite knowing her health condition and her miscarriage. However, when she told Ravi Chopra about the entire situation, he asked her to take a rest and that he would manage. Smriti shared:
“He told me, ‘Tumhara dimag kharab hai? Do you know how it feels to lose a child, you have just gone through that. Kal aane ki zaroorat nahi. I pushed and said, ‘Ravi ji Sunday ka episode hai, Sita replace nahi ho sakti… He said, ‘Main kar lunga'.”

However, the next day of her hospitalisation, when Smriti returned to Ekta Kapoor’s show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she was shocked to find that one of her co-actors had told the producer that Smriti was faking her miscarriage. The actress was heartbroken, but she had to continue her work as she needed money to pay EMIs for her house. However, the following day, she went to Ekta and showed her the medical papers, adding that she would have shown her the foetus also had it been there. Smriti said:
“The person didn’t realise that I have returned because I needed money to pay EMIs for my house. The next day, I took all my medical papers to Ekta to tell her it is not a drama. She got uncomfortable and told me not to show the papers. I told her, ‘Foetus bacha nahi, warna woh bhi dikha deti.”
For those who don’t know, Smriti Irani had found love in her friend, Mona Irani’s ex-husband, Zubin Irani. After being head over heels in love for one another for some time, the duo tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony in the year 2001. Zubin and Mona also have a daughter named Shanelle, and Smriti shares a warm and cordial relationship with her stepdaughter. Apart from Shanelle, Smriti has two more children, Zohr Irani and Zoish Irani with her hubby, Zubin.
Currently, Smriti Irani is serving as a politician after bidding farewell to her acting career.
