Tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain sadly passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco, USA, due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which is a lung-related issue. After much confusion about the validity of the news, his family issued a statement announcing his passing on Monday, December 16, 2024. Zakir is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, his daughters, Anisa Qureshi, his brothers, Taufiq and Fazal Qureshi, and his sister, Khurshid Aulia.
Zakir earned several accolades through his significant contributions to music, including the Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Vibhushan in 2023.
