A father-daughter shares an irreplaceable bond and Bollywood actress, Soha Ali Khan is no different. The actress remembers her father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi on his birth anniversary.
We live in a society that thinks that a father's role is just limited to a provider. They go bravo when a father changes his baby's diaper and applauses when he calms his crying kid. We don't often meet fathers, who are ready to sit at home and watch their kids grow. There was a time when 'papa bears' never used to sit at home, forget about taking care of their kids but late legendary cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi broke the notion and managed his kids when his wife, Sharmila Tagore was out shooting. He had shared a beautiful relationship with his kids, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan. I’m happy that I put it down because after he passed away, these were the things that I was thinking about. We enjoyed each other’s company immensely. We went on holidays together. He would help me with my school debates, speeches (especially since he was a good orator), homework, and my visa application. I always thought he was the coolest person in the world and I was so lucky to be loved by someone who himself was loved by so many people." In an interview with The Times of India, Soha had talked about her father and how used to take setbacks. She had shared, "Abba didn't like to talk about the setbacks in his life. If I asked him about his father he would say he didn't remember him very much. If I asked about his eye, he would brush it off as 'a bit of bad luck'. I had to discover in articles and from friends just how brilliant a batsman he was before the injury. He had already earned himself a bit of a reputation in school as a natural cricketer, graceful and lightning-quick in the field."
She had further added, "In fact Badi Amman decided to employ the English professional cricketer, Frank Woolley, who had been Sarkar Abba's coach to train Abba when he was only twelve. She would attend each of these coaching classes and watch attentively from afar. She soon noticed that for the most part Woolley was just standing to the side watching Abba practice in the nets. After multiple sessions of much the same, she finally went up to him to gently remind him that he was being paid handsomely for his instruction. Woolley looked at her and simply said, 'I wouldn't change anything. I wouldn't change anything at all."
