Ahead of the release of 'Chhorii 2', Soha Ali Khan, who plays the evil antagonist in the film, shares that she avoided FaceTiming her family, and even her husband, Kunal Khemmu, was terrified of her!
Soha Ali Khan is no longer the girl next door. This time, she is ready to embrace her dark side and terrify viewers with her work. The actress, whose career in Bollywood spans over two decades, has made her name as an elegant heir of the Pataudi royalty. For the first time in her decades-long career, Soha has turned towards a dark and sinister role for her upcoming release, Chhorii 2, co-starring Nushrratt Bharuccha. Well, let's just say, even her husband, Kunal Kemmu, was terrified to see Soha and kept his distance from the actress during shoots.
Soha Ali Khan is making her comeback to the screen after a long break. The actress, best known for her composed and graceful on-screen presence, has opted for a sinister role this time. She plays the role of the horror thriller’s antagonist, ‘Dasi Maa’, and the first look has already kept audiences hooked. However, during the time Soha channelled her inner evil for the film, it was not just the audience but her own husband, Kunal, who was rattled.
Ahead of Chhorii 2’s release, in a candid chat with Hindustan Times, Soha Ali Khan shared how she used to hide her face from her daughter when she was dressed as the evil ‘Dasi Maa’. Apparently, Soha’s haunting makeover spooked her husband, Kunal, too. Soha shared:
"We were shooting in an evil look for long hours, and I couldn't be there for bedtime. Normally, when I'm not there for bedtime, I FaceTime her. This time, I did not want to. She would, and I would disconnect and do an audio call. I said, 'Trust me, you don't want to see me like this at bedtime'. Neither did Kunal want to talk to me. I said, ‘You can answer my call.’ He said, 'No, talk to me after two months’.”
Talking about the choice of her role as the film’s antagonist, Soha shared how she has always been offered timid and dignified roles that gave a girl-next-door vibe. However, when she got the offer to play ‘Dasi Maa’ in Chhorii 2, she found a way to break free from her comfort zone. She told HT:
"I have been offered very dignified roles in the past, very vanilla and girl-next-door. Dasi maa (her character in Chhorii 2) is far from that and very out of my comfort zone, physically and emotionally."
The original Chhorii, starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, was released in 2021 and was a chilling take on societal evils wrapped in a horror shell. In its highly anticipated sequel, Nushrratt’s character, ‘Sakshi’ is about to face even greater evil forces to save her daughter from a supernatural threat. The film is set to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video on April 11, 2025.
The buzz around Chhorii 2 was ignited further when the Stree 2 actor, Rajkummar Rao, shared the trailer on his Instagram Story, writing, “Soha Ali Khan, this looks fab! Nushrratt Bharuccha kamaal hai Chhorii,” followed by a red heart and folded hands emoji.
