Sonakshi Sinha's mother, Poonam Sinha, felt that her daughter, Sonakshi, is more in love with her husband, Zaheer Iqbal, than the latter is with her.
Sonakshi Sinha tied the knot with her long-term-boyfriend, Zaheer Iqbal, on June 23, 2024. The couple got married under the Special Marriage Act in a civil ceremony. Since then, Sonakshi has shared adorable pictures of the two, which fans have been swooning over. However, Sona's mother, Poonam Sinha, has a different take on their marriage.
In the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 2, the entire Sinha family made an appearance, including veteran actor and politician, Shatrughan Sinha, his wife, Poonam Sinha, daughter Sonakshi Sinha, and Sonakshi’s husband and the newest addition to their family, Zaheer Iqbal. During the episode, Poonam took a jibe at her son-in-law and said that her mother used to say that a woman should marry a man who loves her more. She added that she listened to her mother's advice and married a man who did. However, her daughter married someone she loves more. Poonam was quoted saying:
"Meri mummy ne kaha tha ki hamesha ussi se shaadi karna jo tumko zyada pyaar kare. Voh toh maine sunn liya, kar bhi liya. Lekin meri beti ne kya kiya? Usne usse shaadi ki jisko yeh zyada pyaar karti hai."
Sonakshi Sinha quickly interjected her mother, and defended her husband, Zaheer Iqbal. She said that her mother's statement was debatable as Zaheer felt he loved her more, whereas she believed that she loved her husband more. Sonakshi said:
"Voh thoda debatable hai. Usko lagta hai voh mujhse zyada pyaar karta hai. Mujhe lagta hai main usse zyada pyaar karti hoon. Ab settle kaun karega yeh maamla?"
The video soon went viral on Reddit, with Sonakshi’s fans speculating the reason behind Poonam's strange comment. Users found it awkward and sad to watch. They added that they had assumed it would be a cute comparison but went south admittingly fast. One Reddit user wrote:
"Oh god, that was actually so sad and awkward to watch. They thought her statement was heading in a completely different direction and celebrated a little too early. You can see he was a bit hurt by where that went."
Sonakshi Sinha appeared on Kareena Kapoor's chat show, What Women Want and shared her whirlwind love story with her husband, Zaheer Iqbal. The actress revealed that she was the first to confess her feelings, and that too within just a week of meeting him. Sonakshi described it as love at first sight and shared that her connection with her husband was instant, and that had never happened to her before.
The couple kept their relationship on the low for years before officially tying the knot this summer, in June 2024. The ceremony was a private affair that took place at Sonakshi’s Mumbai residence. Their registered marriage followed a star-grassed reception attended by B-Town icons like Salman Khan, Huma Qureshi, Rekha, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Kajol, among several others.
