Sonali Bendre walked down the memory lane as she revisited the time when she got to know being diagnosed with metastatic cancer.
Sonali Bendre left everyone inspired back in 2018, when she gave the deadly condition of cancer a tough fight and bounced to great health. For the unversed, the diva was diagnosed with stage four of metastatic cancer, and the doctors even pronounced that she only had thirty per cent chance of survival. Nevertheless, she took the challenge and underwent rigorous treatment in a hospital in New York City, until i2021 when she was declared cancer free. While she fought back the predating condition, she lost on her graceful locks of hair. However, Sonali never fretted away from accepting the reality and posted her bald pictures on social media.
In a recent interaction with The Humans Of Bombay, Sonali Bendre opened up about her first reaction, when she learnt that she was battling with stage four of metastatic cancer. She remembered that at first, she went into denial, and questioned why she out of everyone else had to fight the disease. Calling it a time of nightmare, Sonali then added how a slight change of attitude enabled her to quicken her healing process. In her words:
“When I received my cancer diagnosis, my first thought was, 'Why me?' I'd wake up thinking it was all a nightmare; I couldn't believe that this could happen to me. That's when I started to change the way I thought. Instead of 'why me?' I started asking, 'Why not me?' I started to feel grateful this wasn't happening to my sister or my son. I realized I had the strength to deal with this, I had the resources to go to the best hospitals, and the support system to help me through this. Starting to ask 'why not me?' helped me start the healing process."

Sonali Bendre was never afraid to be open to the world about her changed looks, scars and baldness, especially after her recovery from cancer. In the same interview, the diva revealed that the prospect of seeing her face bloated and bald used to scare her, and made her feel difficult to embrace the reality. However, she revealed that once conquering that fear, she was able to come out of all apprehensions about her appearance. In her words:
“That was the scary part as the bloated face, the scar and the baldness, and especially when the hair just starts coming, it’s just the most ugly sight on the top of your head. But I did that and I believed that the moment you’re scared of something and you’re feeling that ‘No, how can I do this, I need to go out', then you should do it. You just kill it right there or just crush it then. That was one way of looking at it.”
