Sonali Bendre Shares How She Didn't Let The 'C Word' Overpower Her, Looks Back At Her Cancer Journey

On Cancer Survivors' Day, Sonali Bendre looked back at her journey and how she did not let the 'C' word overpower her life.

Sonali Bendre has always been one of the most promising actresses of the 90s. Be it Diljale, Major Saab, Zakhm, Sarfarosh or Hum Saath Saath Hain, Sonali’s beauty has charmed her fans. The Maharashtrian mulgi had fallen in love with director, Goldie Behl and the duo got married in 2002. In 2005, Sonali and Goldie had become proud parents to a baby boy, Ranveer Behl.

In 2018, Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She got treated in New York and had fought the big ‘C’ like a tigress. She had fought her battle with courage and came out of it victorious. Sonali’s battle has redefined our thoughts about life. She never let the deadly disease overpower her and inspired millions with her battle.

On Cancer Survivors' Day, Sonali Bendre took to her IG handle and shared a collage, comprising a picture of when she was undergoing chemotherapy and another picture of her recent self. It was in December 2018, when Sonali had returned to Mumbai after her treatment in New York. Along with the collage, Sonali posted a powerful note.

Looking back at her battle, Sonali wrote, “How time flies... today when I look back, I see strength, I see weakness but most importantly I see the will to not let the C word define how my life will be after it. You create the life you choose. The journey is what you make of it... so remember to take #OneDayAtATime and to #SwitchOnTheSunshine.”

At a FICCI event in Jaipur, Sonali had talked about her battle with cancer and had revealed that losing her hair was the scariest part. When Sonali had appeared on the cover of The Harper magazine, she had said how after she had shaved her hair, her friends had asked her to preserve her long hair to make her own wig. But she had thought otherwise and had let go of them.

Sharing how difficult it was to share the news of her cancer to their son, Sonali Bendre had said that it was selfish on her part. Talking about the same, Sonali had stated that being an important part of her life, her son had the right to know what was he going to face. Opening about her selfish motive behind revealing the truth to her son, she had said, “I didn’t know where I was heading. Whatever time was left, I wanted him with me. It was as simple as that.”

In an interview with Vogue, Sonali had shared why she had decided to open up about her cancer. Sonali had revealed that she had earlier thought to hide it because it was a disease and had thought that all her brand was over. But when her oncologist had told her that she was at the fourth stage and had a 30 per cent chance, it had changed her view.
