Contradicting the conventional norms and raising a lot of eyebrows, Veere Di Wedding is a progressive film and “not a chick flick”. When asked the newbie bride, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja about the reaction of her in-laws after watching her bold character in the film, she was quoted as saying, "My family members or in-laws have no problem with this. This is my job and I have no hesitation in doing this. I received a lot of good response from the in-laws' house. Anand's family has greatly appreciated my work."
Web series, Permanent Roommates fame Sumeet Vyas will be seen opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film and says that the female brigade has taken the script of the film to another level. Sumeet Vyas said to IANS, "It was a special experience. They're all supremely talented people and so focused. It was inspiring to see how committed Kareena is. She's so focused and driven. Same goes for Sonam, Swara and Shikha. They've really taken the script to another level." (Also Read: Sumeet Vyas Finally Opens Up About His Relationship With Ekta Kaul, And Ex-Wife Shivani Tanksale)
Speaking of her character Kalindi Puri in the film Veere Di Wedding, Kareena Kapoor Khan shared, "I think I wanted to be a part of this film from the beginning because this is a very different film for me. I have always been a part of films where I shared screen space with heroes and I played the heroine. And here, I am narrating the story of a girl, along with three other girls who are her best buddies." She further added, "Also, this is a story that captures various stages of love and marriage of girls. One wants to get married, one is getting divorced, one is commitment phobic... So it is a story of different shades of a relationship." (Also Read: Amidst 'Veere Di Wedding' Promotions, Kareena Kapoor Khan Gets A Surprise Visit From Taimur Ali Khan)
Explaining the concept behind Veere Di Wedding not being a chick flick film, Sonam stated, “That’s a derogatory way of looking at a film. It’s not a chick flick. Firstly, we should not be called chicks. And secondly, it’s a movie about four people, which caters to both men and women.” She further continued, “The Pyaar Ka Punchnama series is great but it’s very sexist. VDW is not about women discussing men and putting them down or discussing what they are going through. It’s quite different.” When Sonam was asked if they are ‘reducing female empowerment to behaving like men’ as many accused the film of after watching the trailer, she quipped, “I don’t think this question would be posed to men that you are drinking, smoking and abusing or sexually active, does this make you less of a man?” (Also Read: Sonam's Hubby Anand Explains Why Do They Use Hashtag 'EverydayPhenomenal' In Their Pictures)
