Sonam Kapoor on the show shared that she has been financially independent since the age of 18. She was quoted as saying, "I became financially independent when I was 18 but just like a lot of Indian kids, I used to live with my parents. Besides that, I was always given that kind of independence where you have to make your own decisions. My father always tells me to take the onus of my life decisions and not put the blame on anyone if the decision turns out to be bad."
Talking about how her father has always given her the independence to take her own decisions. The Neerja actress also shared, "He (Anil Kapoor) says, 'I have brought you up in a way where I know you will always make the right decision', and that kind of respect and freedom, I think every parent should give their child."
Vidya Balan interjected here and shared her story as to how the first time she bought an air-conditioner, she felt very special. Vidya Balan shared, "I started doing ad films at the age of 19 and then I started doing it regularly and earned well. When I bought an air-conditioner for the first time through the hard earned money, that feeling was truly special."
The 40-year-old actress further added, "It felt like it's not just an air-conditioner but a Kohinoor diamond that I have put up there. I can't explain that feeling in words. When one is financially independent, when they earn by themselves and splurge it, that feeling is something else." Coming back to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Anil Kapoor, in an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Anil Kapoor recently shared how it was working with his daughter on Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga. The Dil Dhadakne Do actor said, "I was waiting for an opportunity to work with her. Being in the same profession, if you get an opportunity to work with your daughter, it’s a blessing. Father and sons have worked in the past but a father-daughter working together is rare, at least in India. Sonam and I spent a lot of time together on the set. We were also planning her marriage during that time. So, the timing was perfect. In between shots, we’d go to the van and discuss things. (Smiles) No one knew that the wedding planning was running parallel to the shooting in Chandigarh."
Anil Kapoor also revealed if he learnt anything from his daughter, and said, "Sonam’s so giving, so generous and spontaneous, which is wonderful. Everyone likes her. Everyone whom she’s worked with has great things to say about her. It makes me proud of her."
Anil Kapoor is a father to three children- Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Rhea Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor. Sharing his thoughts on the generation gap, Anil told Filmfare, "I don’t want to get into this ‘old’ and ‘new’ discussion. (Laughs) It makes me sound dated. I don’t think about these things nor do I analyse them. I take things as they come. It’s organic. You just have to move with the times. Be it professionally or personally. But when you move with the times, it doesn’t mean you forget your old friends and colleagues. My guest list is the same. It’s not changed with time. Few new guests may have been added that’s all."
