Sonam Kapoor's lie got caught as she told a fake struggle story on how she worked hard for five years to get her first film, while she told another story during an interview with Anupam Kher.
Sonam Kapoor, daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, rose to fame with her first film, Saawariya, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, the film failed to impress the audience, but Sonam found a footing in the movie world and bagged many more films. However, a video of Sonam's proudly flaunting her fake struggle story in front of Rajkumar Rao, left netiznes in shock, as they found proof of the same.
Sonam Kapoor's old video has been going viral, wherein she was in conversation with Rajkummar Rao. She asked him about the nepotism debate and being entitled. To which, he agreed and shared that she got her first film easily with a big director. To save herself and prove her point, Sonam made up a story and revealed she worked hard to get her debut film. She said:
"It took me five years to get my first film, I auditioned my ass off. It is not an easy person to like."
However, in another interaction with Anupam Kher for his show, Sonam shared that she was 22 years old when she bagged her first film. When the host asked if Sonam got the role because she had worked as an assistant under him for five years. To this, Sonam revealed that she got it on the first day of her job. And it took Sanjay Leela Bhansali one and a half years to convince her. She said:
"22 ki thi jab Saawariya release hui. Mujhe Saawariya pehle din par mili thi, my first day of my job as an assistant director. Sanjay Bhansali ko kareeb one-and-a-half year large mujhe convince karne ko, 'Ki please ap act karo."
As soon as the video compilation made way on the internet, netizens reacted to the same. One user wrote, "The conversation with Rajkummar Rao suggests that she is telling a lot of lies." Another one commented, "Itna jhoot bolti hain ki isko yaad hi nhi pichla jhoot kya tha". A third user penned, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali is still in trauma. Savariya was his first flop film." A fourth user commented, "How rude she is while talking to rkr."

Initially, Sonam's career took time to take flight. While she had her share of flops, she also made her acitng count and leave a mark in the film industry. However, her acting calibre was loved in films like Ranjhana, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Neerja, Veere Di Wedding, Sanju and many more.
Talking about her personal life, she is married to Anand Ahuja. After dating each other, they tied the knot in a grand wedding ceremony in 2018, and in 2022, they welcomed their first child, Vayu.
