Actress, Sonam Khan worked extensively during the 80s and early 90s. In a recent interview, she revealed an incident where Aditya Chopra saved her from drowning.
Sonam Khan was a well-known actress in the late 80s and early '90s. The former actress and model has worked extensively in Bollywood and Telugu cinema. Sonam Khan has worked in 35 films during eight years of her career. The actress took a break from the glamour world after her marriage, to focus on her family life. In 2023, after a long break, the actress made her first public appearance at the Jio World Plaza launch in Mumbai. Since then, Sonam Khan has been conducting several interviews with the media.
Sonam Khan plans to return to Bollywood and continue her acting journey. Recently, Sonam sat down for an interview with News18 Showsha and shared an incident from the shoot of her film, Vijay. She revealed that she was drowning during a scene with Rishi Kapoor in the swimming pool. However, Aditya Chopra jumped and saved her life on that day. For the unversed, Vijay was directed by Aditya's father, Yash Chopra. She was quoted as saying:
"I jumped into the pool and I didn't know how to swim. I was literally grabbing Rishi ji below with me. The best part is, people thought it was a shot going on and then Aditya Chopra jumped into the pool and he rescued me. I would have been dead… Or I would have harmed Rishi ji unknowingly that day, it was crazy."

Vijay marked Sonam Khan's debut in Bollywood. She starred in the film alongside a large cast, including Rishi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Anil Kapoor, and Meenakshi Sheshadri. Sonam also made headlines for wearing a bikini in that scene.
In the same interview, Sonam Khan shared that she was scared after that incident. As a result, she could not make herself ready to swim again. However, at that time, no one realised that she was drowning until Aditya Chopra noticed it. Later, Yash Chopra scolded her for being careless and not learning to swim. In her words:
"Whatever shots after that, Yash ji said, 'You are a useless girl, not learned how to swim, what are you doing…' The entire unit was there but it was Aditya Chopra who realised that I was actually drowning. He jumped with his clothes and shoes on."

Sonam Khan said that Yash Chopra had completed his responsibilities of informing her about the swimming pool scenes in Vijay and asked her to learn how to swim. He got her consent before the shoot, but she didn't follow his instructions. Recalling the incident, Sonam shared:
"I never bothered to learn swimming and we had a shooting in a hotel in Bangalore. It was a one-shot scene where Rishi ji was walking from one point, I walked from another and we both had to jump into the pool. I didn't want to tell anybody anything so we both jumped into the pool and it was one shot."
