South Indian Actress 'Kaadhaal' Sandhya Ties The Knot

The list of celebrities tying the knot seems to be growing day by day. The wedding season is here to stay with our Bollywood celebs, television stars, cricket heroes, fashion designers, or the South Indian film industry stars, all tying the knot. After Makarand Deshpande, Himanshu Soni, Disha Vakani, Harbhajan Singh, Masaba Gupta and Varun Sandesh- the latest to enter this list is South Indian actress Sandhya.

Born as Revathy, to a middle class family with no connections to the film industry, she came into the limelight with her debut film, Kadhal, which released in 2004. She got instant recognition from the film and came to be popularly known as “Kaadhal Sandhya”. She bagged the Filmfare Award as well as the Tamil Nadu State Award for her remarkable performance in the film. In 2006, for her role in the Tamil film Dishyum, she got a Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for the Best Actress.

She got married to an IT professional, Venkat Chandrasekharan, as per Hindu customs in the Guruvayoor temple in Kerala on Sunday, December 6. It was a close-knit affair with only family, close friends and relatives in attendance. While Venkat was seen in a traditional white kurta and dhoti, Sandhya looked resplendent in a golden saree and matching jewellery.

This wedding was initially planned with much pomp and show in Chennai. However, the recent floods and heavy rainfall forced the actress to drop her plans and have a simple affair in Kerala. Sandhya’s family had lost all contact with the groom’s family since phone lines were jammed. When on Saturday they could finally talk to the groom and his parents, it was decided to shift the venue of the marriage to Kerala.

A grand reception is expected to take place in Chennai after the city returns to normalcy. Marriage will not stop her career and she will be seen in a host of Tamil and Malayalam films. Some of her upcoming films include Soodhattam and Thimiru 2 - Veri in Tamil, and Puzhayum Kannadiyum, Long Sight, Paris Payyans and Second Innings in Malayalam.
