'I'm Sorry, I Love You' Actor, Chung Lim Passed Away At 37 After Battling Colon Cancer For 13 Years

South Korean entertainment industry mourns the loss of actor-singer, Chung Lim as he passed away after battling colon cancer for 13 long years.

South Korean singer and actor, Chung Lim passed away at the age of 37 after battling colon cancer for years. Herald Pop reported on July 20, 2023, that the singer-actor passed away on July 19, 2023. The actor was last seen in the drama, Smile, Mom in a guest appearance. Chung Lim debuted in the Korean industry as an actor in the drama, I’m Sorry, I Love You, in 2004. After doing a few acting gigs, Chung switched to singing and released his first album, Step, in 2009.

Chung Lim’s battle with colon cancer

Chung Lim passed away at the tender age of 37 after battling colon cancer for 13 long years. The actor-turned-singer was first diagnosed with symptoms of colon cancer in 2010, Chung went for surgery and chemotherapy for the same. However, his cancer revived in 2011, and since then, Chung had a continuous battle with the disease. After a strenuous fight with the deadly disease for 13 long years, Chung, unfortunately, passed away. The actor's memorial service was held on July 20, 2023, at Gangnam Severance Hospital, Seoul. The funeral will be held on July 21, 2023, as per Korean Standard Time.

Chung Lim’s career graph

Chung Lim was born in Korea in 1986, and his real name is Han Chung Lim. He first debuted in the Korean entertainment industry in 2004 with the drama I’m Sorry, I Love You. Although his role in the drama was for a few minutes, his acting was impactful, and as a result, he garnered quite a lot of popularity from it. After his debut, he appeared in three other Korean dramas and mostly had guest appearances. His dramas include Romance Hunter (2007), Dream (2009), and Smile, Mom (2010). Chung also appeared in several episodes of reality TV shows like Star Golden Bell (2004), and Let’s Go Dream Team Season 2 (2009). He even released his debut and only album, STEP, in 2009. Chung Lim stopped working in the entertainment field shortly after 2010 due to his rising health concerns. According to reports from Herald Pop, the actor-turned-singer was working as a sales representative in a motorcycle company and was married.

Male Version of Kim Tae-hee

After Chung Lim’s debut in 2004, he was compared to South Korea’s most beautiful actress, Kim Tae-hee in terms of their similar facial features. Their facial features were so similar that people used to call Chung the male version of Kim Tae-Hee. With his tall and slender frame, Chung was also a fantastic dancer and performer. And because of this, he was also compared to Jung Ji-Hoon, who is popularly known as Rain, a renowned South Korean artist.

Fans and family mourn

The entire Korean industry and all Chung's fans worldwide mourn the loss of the performer and are deeply shocked by the unfortunate demise of their idol. Cho Minha, a former member of Jewelry, a first-generation K-pop group, took to Instagram and expressed her grief. She uploaded a picture of a white flower and called the demised "a bright and innocent child". She further added:

“In a place where there is no pain, I pray that you rest in peace.”
