SS Rajamouli's son, SS Karthikeya, was slammed by netizens for making an insensitive joke about Japan's earthquake.
SS Rajamouli needs no introduction, the filmmaker is considered one of the finest visionary directors in recent times. Thanks to his larger-than-life picturisation and raw depiction of reality on screen, the director has received critical and commercial acclamation like no other. SS Rajamouli was recently in Japan with his son, SS Karthikeya, for a special screening of their 2022 film, RRR. During their stay, on the morning of March 21, 2024, the team experienced earthquake waves while staying on the 28th floor of an apartment.
Japan is one of those countries which is very prone to natural hazards, especially earthquakes and tsunamis. In one unfortunate occurrence, Japan faced another 5.8 magnitude earthquake on March 21, 2024 morning. SS Rajamouli and his son, SS Karthikeya, along with the team, were too stuck at their residential building. SS Karthikeya later took to his X account and shared that this was the first time in his life that he had experienced an earthquake, and it indeed was a moment that he can tick off from his bucket list.

SS Karthikey also shared that when the earthquake hit Japan, it took him a minute or two to realise what was happening. Then, when reality dawned upon him, he was about to panic when the Japanese people around him were all relaxed, as if it was only raining outside. Karthikey even shared a picture of his smartwatch warning him about the earthquake.
As soon as the earthquake news came to the forefront, the Indian masses were concerned about SS Rajamouli and his crew's safety. But with SS Karthikeya's post, they became sanguine that the crew is safe, but another section was not impressed with the youngster for referring the natural disaster as a bucket list activity and poking fun at it. While some understood his humour and laughed, others called his post insensitive and slammed Karthikeya.

SS Karthikeya is an active member of the entertainment fraternity, just like his father, SS Rajamouli. He recently debuted as a Telegu film distributor with the movie, Premalu. He also ventured into production and monetised Malayalam star, Fahadh Faasil's two movies. Apart from this, SS Karthikeya also assists his father in all his ventures.
