Govinda's wife, Sunita Ahuja, recently revealed that she converted to Christianity without telling her parents when she was in school to have some wine.
Govinda is married to Sunita Ahuja since 1987. The couple have known each other for more than 40 years and are still going strong. Sunita, who has stayed away from showbiz, is known for her confident nature and unfiltered personality. She never shies away from speaking her mind, and for the last few years, she has been seen at events and interviews with Govinda. Sunita, who comes from a wealthy family, is half-Punjabi and half-Nepali but follows Christianity. In a new interview, she revealed the reason for her conversion.
Recently, Sunita Ahuja appeared on the podcast show, Timeout With Ankit. During her conversation, she shared several interesting anecdotes from her childhood, her love story with Govinda, and life after marriage. She recalled one interesting incident and revealed that she had studied in a Christian school and one day secretly converted to Christianity without informing her parents. The star's wife said that she took the decision so that she could have some wine. She was quoted as saying:
"I was born in Bandra. I've been baptised. I was in a Christian school, and all my friends were Christians. As a child, I had heard that Jesus' blood is wine. And I thought to myself, 'Wine means alcohol'. I was always very cunning. There's no harm in having a drink, is there? Just to have some wine, I got myself baptised."
Sunita added that she still follows Christianity and attends Church on Saturday. She was later asked if her parents were angry over her decision. But Sunita mentioned that they never learned about it. Moreover, she shared that she even visits dargahs, gurudwaras, and temples.
In the same interview, Sunita recalled the cultural differences between her and Govinda. She revealed she was from Bandra, a more modern area back in time. While Govinda lived in Virar. So, he used to dislike her wearing miniskirts and said that his mother wouldn't like it either. For this reason, she began to wear sarees for his mother. In her words:
"I went from wearing miniskirts to sarees. That's why my husband used to hate me. I would tell him, 'I'm from Bandra, you're from Virar, boss.' And he'd say, 'No, my mother won't like it.'"
Govinda entered showbiz with Love 86. He soon became popular with his impeccable comic timing, dancing style, and versatility as an actor. He starred in popular films like Raja Babu, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, Partner and more. He was last seen in Rangeela Raja, which was released in 2019. The actor later launched his YouTube channel in 2020.
