Sunny Deol recently shared his views on his infamous cold war with Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker, Yash Chopra when they worked together on the iconic film, 'Darr'.
It is not uncommon for actors to clashe when working in a high-pressure environment on a film set. Over the years, several tales about clashes over creative vision, miscommunication, and ego conflict have come to light in Bollywood. One of the most iconic on-set conflicts in the industry ever has been between Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan when they worked together in the popular film, Darr in 1993. Everyone inside and outside the industry knew about it, and Sunny had vowed not to work with the superstar and the filmmaker again. In a new interaction, Sunny Deol shared whether he is over that decades-old cold war.
Sunny Deol is on a promotional spree for his upcoming film, Jaat and recently sat down for an interview at News 18 Summit. During his interaction, Sunny mentioned that he is willing to collaborate with other stars for multi-starrer projects. Unlike some young actors who prefer to avoid working with stars to ensure that they get adequate screen time, the Border actor shared that he would like to work with other stars like Shah Rukh, with whom he worked in Darr. Sunny said:
"There are so many stars. I can work with any of them. I recently said that I worked with Shah Rukh in Darr, so I wouldn't mind doing another film with him. Let's see what we can do now."
The reply surprised everyone owing to his fiasco with the superstar. Consequently, he was asked if he was over his cold war with Shah Rukh Khan. For those unaware, Shah Rukh and Sunny came together after years when the former arrived at Gadar 2 grand success bash with his wife, Gauri, in 2023. Sunny delighted fans, explaining that fights happen when people work together, but people make up after that. He was again asked if he was upset with SRK or the late director, Yash Chopra. In his reply, the Border actor said:
"I wasn't upset as such. Whatever happened then, it happened, that time has passed. After that, everyone knew who was right and who was wrong, so it makes no sense to repeat it all over again. Otherwise, how will we move on?"
Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan worked together in the 1993 film, Darr. During its filming, issues cropped up between the actors after director, Yash Chopra allegedly narrated two different versions of the script to both the actors. Sunny was unaware that SRK had a more significant role in the film than him and was upset over it for decades. Moreover, he has never worked with Yash Chopra or his Yash Raj Films again. Previously, Aamir was offered Shah Rukh's role, but he asked for a joint narration to ensure everyone knew their roles. But the filmmaker refused and removed him. During an appearance in Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny said:
"I had a heated discussion with Yash Chopra regarding that scene. I tried explaining to him that I was a commando officer in the film. My character is an expert and fit, so how can this boy beat me easily? He can beat me if I can't see him. If he can stab me while I am looking at him, then I won't be called a commando. Soon, out of anger, I didn't even realise that I had ripped my pants with my hands."
Sunny Deol was last seen in the blockbuster film, Gadar 2, where he reprised his iconic role of 'Tara Singh in 2023. He will next be seen in his upcoming film, Jaat, co-starring Randeep Hooda, Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra and more. The actor also has Lahore 1947, Border 2, Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 1 and Safar in his kitty.
