Iconic actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away this morning, leaving a huge void in Hindi theatre, television, and Bollywood. She is the only actress in the history of Indian cinema to win three National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in films like Tamas, Mammo, and Badhaai Ho. The actress was also known and loved for her portrayal of Kalyani Devi Dharamveer Singh/Dadisa in the iconic show, Balika Vadhu.

For the unversed, veteran actor, Naseeruddin Shah is her former brother-in-law, as the actor had married Surekha Sikri's step-sister, Manara Sikri, also known as Parveen Murad. The actress left a huge void behind in Indian cinema, which will hardly be filled ever by anyone.

According to reports, Surekha Sikri passed away on July 16, 2021, at the age of 75. The veteran actress was suffering from some prolonged illness after she had suffered a major paralytic stroke in 2018 and a brain stroke last year in 2020. The award-winning actress' manager confirmed the reports of her demise. Her manager, Vivek Sidhwani said, "Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75."

Talking about the reason behind her demise, Surekha Sikri's agent, Vivek Sidhwani, added that she was suffering from complications which were risen after her second brain stroke. The manager also added that her family members were by her side during her last hours. Vivek said, "She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram."

In an illustrious career spanned from theatre to films to television, Surekha Sikri had excelled in all sorts of mediums and had proved the mettle of her acting prowess time and again. The actress had made her debut back in 1978 with the political drama film, Kissa Kursi Ka. Not many people are aware of the fact that she is an NSD (National School Of Drama) graduate and had also won the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989. Talking about her family background, while her mother was a teacher, her father was in the Indian Air Force.

For the unversed, Surekha Sikri got married to Hemant Rege in 1994, whom she had met in 1985, on the sets of her film, Tamas. Together, they had welcomed a baby boy and had named him Rahul Sikri. However, sadly on October 20, 2009, Surekha's husband, Hemant had died due to heart failure.
