Sushmita Sen Recalls Magazines Wouldn't Feature Her On Covers In 90s, 'She's Bad Influence For Kids'

In a recent interview, Sushmita Sen opened up about the repercussions of being loud and clear back in the 90s and revealed she was considered a bad influence.

Bollywood actress, Sushmita Sen, who was recently seen in the web series, Taali, has been garnering a lot of praise for her role as a transgender. The diva was crowned Miss Universe in 1994, and later, she made her debut with the 1996 film, Dastak. Thereafter, there has been no looking back for her. Apart from her professional life, Sushmita was often in the news for her controversial life choices, as she was often seen as the rulebreaker.

Sushmita Sen recalls being called a bad influence in the 90s

In an interview with Film Companion, Sushmita Sen opened up about the time when she was considered a bad influence back in the 1990s. When the actress was asked if there were any repercussions to being ‘bindaas’ in the film industry back then, she gave an affirmative response. Talking about the same, Sushmita said:

“There were repercussions. In the 90s… because back then it was a much more closeted society so for you to speak your mind and to say anything that you believed in was like… she is bad influence, don’t get her in front of our kids and everyone else.”

Sushmita Sen recalls magazines would not feature her on their covers

While Sushmita Sen has been ruling the entertainment world with her charm, the case was not the same back in the 90s. In the same interview, the actress shared that magazines would not feature her on their covers since she was loud and clear. She added:

“There was a time when they told magazines not to put me on the cover because of my quotes. I don’t blame them. I was very loud and clear.”

However, Sushmita added that despite getting slammed for her opinionated views, she never stopped herself from expressing her thoughts. Further in the interview, the actress shared that the world is now far more accepting than it was back in the 90s. In her words:

“I thought if you take away my freedom to express myself, what freedom do I really have? So am I going to scare away from speaking my mind or am I just going to learn it how to say it better, say it nicer? Which I did learn because I think I didn’t have that tact before. The world is far more accepting of someone speaking their mind. There is still that ‘haw’ element but its not as bad as the 90s.”
