Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai etched their names in the hearts of millions when they participated in the Miss World pageant 1994. Years later now, the two of them have not just emerged victorious in their professional achievements, but are also celebrated figures globally. Moreover, the gorgeous ladies are equally settled in their personal lives.
In a recent interaction with Mashable India, Sushmita Sen reminisced about a throwback picture of herself with Aishwarya Rai, dating back to their grand representation on the platform of the Miss World 1994 pageant. Moreover, the diva heartily recalled fond anecdotes about her contender, Aishwarya Rai and claimed that the latter’s beauty made it impossible for any other contestant to dream about winning the pageant, including herself. Sushmita said:
“Aishwarya has been not just the pin-up poster of beauty. At a time in the 90s, when I entered the modelling scene, she was ‘it.' Like, she was Sanju of the commercial in Pepsi. And she was this face was that was so…She is Indian like most people would go…And then they tell me that she is competing in the same competition and I thought – ‘Agle saal chalenge ya to uske baad chalenge. Is saal to chance hi nahi hai. Because my idea of what was ethereal was this beautiful woman.”

“And then life brought us together and took us to two different competitions. This picture is taken after we both won for India and came back for the homecoming. This is me as the reigning Miss Universe and the reigning Miss World is Aishwarya. And what a big year for India. It was such a huge feeling that any International definition of beauty had India's name on it.”

Back during her appearance in Koffee With Karan in 2005, Sushmita Sen gave a witty response, when the host, Karan Johar, asked her why she deserved to win the Miss India 1994 title over her strong contender, Aishwarya Rai. Although she remarked not comparing herself with the latter, nevertheless Sushmita felt that she was at her best in that final moment. In her words:
“I don't compare myself to Aishwarya's performance. I think she was fabulous on stage. I do believe in two things: One, that night, I was the best and that's why I deserved to win, not because I was better than someone else. It is only because I was at my best.”
