In a recent interview, Sushmita Sen opened up about the gratifying motherhood journey she had with her daughters, Renee and Alisah. She also revealed the hardships in the same.
Former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen is known for her straightforward nature and strong decisions. At the age of 24, she adopted her elder daughter, Renee. Later, she welcomed her second daughter, Alisah, into her life also by adoption in 2010. Since then, the stunning actress has taken all the responsibilities of a father and a mother, single-handedly and also took complete care of her daughters. Now, she talked about her experience of mothering them as her elder daughter, Renee is set to turn 25 in September 2024.
In an interview with the Etimes, Sushmita Sen opened up about her motherhood journey. The proud mother of two mentioned that she wants to give herself a pat on her back as she looks back at her gratifying journey. Moreover, she mentioned that she is as old as her children in this matter and stated:
“I want to give myself a pat on my back as a mother everyday. That’s self-love. I am not someone who has to be told ki aap kitni achchi maa hai. I already know that (smiles)!”

In the same conversation, Sushmita elaborated on the hardships that she faced while taking full responsibility for her daughters over the years. The actress shared that it was challenging as she did everything single-handedly. However, now, the same decision gives her a sense of fulfilment. In Sushmita's words:
“Being a parent was a different experience at different age groups. It was challenging throughout because I have done it alone. And so, the perception that ‘Oh! She is Sushmita Sen, and she can do it,’ is not true. It is harder to be me and do it. It has been a very gratifying experience. I often say that I am as old as my children, so it is not like I know more than them; I am learning everyday with them. Being a mother has given me a sense of purpose. It’s far greater than being a creative artiste and far greater than anything else I have done in my life. It gives me this feeling that something will live on as love after you are done and dusted.”
Earlier, in an interview with the Bollywood Bubble, Sushmita was asked if her daughters, Renee and Alisah have the fear of losing her after she survived the heart attack. For the unversed, in March 2023, she suffered a heart attack and underwent angioplasty along with the placement of a stent. Thus, answering the question, Sushmita revealed that although her kids always keep a tab on her by pointing out what is good or bad for her health, they don't have such fears. Sushmita mentioned:
“I think they are like ‘My mother tells me all the time, what is good for me and all of that, so she must know what’s good for her! So she just has to follow it’. It’s lovely to have children who hold on for dear life to make sure… but I don’t think they have a fear of losing me. That fear also propels a lot of things, so no fear.”

Taking to her IG handle on June 5, 2023, Sushmita once shared a video from her Paris vacation with her younger daughter, Alisah. The video was shot in front of the magnificent Eiffel Tower, wherein the mother-daughter duo was seen enjoying their time. While Sushmita looked stunning in a black dress, Alisah was wearing a white outfit.
