Gender pay disparity has been a major issue of debate in the film industry. After Kriti Sanon, Lara Dutta, and Priyanka Chopra, now Sushmita Sen shared her take on it.
Sushmita Sen has been known for her skillful acting, witty interviews, and candid opinions. The Aarya actress has always been forthcoming with her opinions on sensitive and important issues, making fans admire her. Recently, in an interview with Bombay Times, the former Miss Universe was asked about the grappling issue of pay disparity in the Hindi film industry, and her honest response is an empowering message for other women.
The gender pay disparity debate began in Hollywood and soon reached the Indian film industry. Many actresses have shared their take on it, and now Sushmita has accepted that pay disparity has long been there. Sushmita has worked in the Hindi film industry for more than three decades now, and the actress admits that women are paid less than men. She believes that it is important for a woman to know her self-worth and ask for equal pay. She was quoted as saying:
“The issue of pay disparity has been there forever. However, with my experience in the digital space, I can say that the numbers are huge for women, at least, it is for me. I think it also reaches a point where you have to know your worth and you have to be unapologetic about asking for it."

As Sushmita accepted that the issue of pay disparity is a long-term issue, she believes that the scenario is changing. The Taali actress, who has been mostly working on OTT projects in recent years, said women need to say ‘no.’ She believes that when women don't settle for less, it will be a cause of change. She said:
“But is it changing? Yes, but gradually. It will take generations of actresses putting their foot down and saying, When we start asking and say that we won’t settle for less, is when change will come about. It’s very hard to say ‘no,’ but when you start doing that is when things will turn around.”
Sushmita Sen was crowned as the Miss Universe on May 21, 1994. Since then, she began working on acting projects and has made a successful career for herself. But, she often shares throwback pictures and videos from her pageant experience. A week ago, the actress celebrated 30 years of winning the historic title by sharing a picture of her daughter, Renee. She mentioned about her daughter in the caption writing:
“This little girl, who I met in an orphanage, taught an 18 yr old me, life’s most innocent yet profound lessons, ones that I live by to this day.”
