Just when our hopes of living in a happy, COVID-19-free world with the arrival of 2021 were soaring high, our expectations were shattered with the rising number of cases in some states and the new strain of Coronavirus found in the UK. Even though the restaurants, bars and clubs had reopened in most parts of the country after the lockdown was lifted, they were given the protocols to follow. Due to the occurrences of violation of social distancing norms observed in Mumbai, the Maharashtra government imposed a night curfew. (Also Read: Arjun Rampal Could Get Reportedly Arrested By NCB In Drug Probe If His Evidence Turns Out To Be Fake)

On December 22, 2020, around 3 am, a popular club, Dragonfly Experience Mumbai was raided by the Mumbai Police for not adhering to the COVID-19 norms imposed by the state. Mumbai Police tweeted, “Party (Nahin) Chalegi Till Six In The Morning! A raid was conducted at a nightclub in Andheri at around 3 am, for flouting COVID prevention norms. Action has been initiated against 34 people, out of which 19 were from Delhi & Punjab, including some celebrities #NewNormal.” Reportedly, Guru Randhawa, Hrithik Roshan’s ex-wife, Sussanne Khan and cricketer, Suresh Raina were also arrested under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), Section 269 (whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and provisions of NMDA. However, they were later granted bail.

After the reports of her arrest made the headlines of December 22, 2020, Sussanne Khan issued a ‘humble clarification’, slamming the media for ‘completely incorrect’ and ‘irresponsible’ speculations. Sussanne wrote, “Last night I was at a close friend’s birthday dinner & a few of us extended to the Dragon Fly club at JW Marriott, Sahar. At 2.30 am the authorities entered the club. Whilst the club management and the authorities were sorting things out, all the guests present were asked to wait for a period of three hours. We were finally allowed to leave at 6 am. Therefore, the speculation by parts of the media that there were arrests made are completely incorrect and also irresponsible.”

Acknowledging Mumbai Police for their selfless efforts in keeping the Mumbaikars safe, Sussanne Khan ended her note with “I fail to understand why we were made to wait or what the issue was with the authorities and the club. I am setting the record straight with this statement. I have utmost regard & respect for the Mumbai Police and for all their selfless efforts in keeping us Mumbaikars safe. Without their constant vigilance for public welfare, we would not feel safe. Best regards, Sussane.” (Also Read: Yuzvendra Chahal Ties The Knot With Dhanashree Verma, The Duo Shares Happy Pictures From The D-Day)

Guru Randhawa’s team also released a statement saying that the violation was unintentional as the singer was not aware of the night curfew. His statement could be read as “Guru Randhawa, who had stepped out for dinner with close friends before returning back to Delhi the same morning, deeply regrets the unintentional incident that occurred last night. Unfortunately, he was not aware of local authorities’ decision of night curfew but instantly conformed to all rules laid out by the government officials. He promises to compile with government guidelines and protocols by taking all precautionary measures in the future. By far, he has been a law-abiding citizen and will continue to do so in the future as well.”
