Swara Bhasker recently shared why she lost friends over politics. She also reacted to the recent incident where Kangana Ranaut was slapped at the Chandigarh airport.
Swara Bhasker is one of those in the entertainment industry who never shies away from calling a spade a spade. She has repeatedly expressed her opinion on several issues, leading her to have some fallouts with her contemporaries. One such person is the now BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. Swara has worked with the actress on the films, Tanu Weds Manu and its sequel. However, Swara and Kangana had a fallout due to their varied personal beliefs.
Recently, Swara spoke to Connect Cine and shared her thoughts on losing friends over political views. Citing a meme as an example, the actress said that she has lost friends over morals and not politics. Swara further mentioned that someone’s political beliefs reflect their morality and principles, and added that she can’t be friends with someone whose ethical value system she doesn’t respect. In her words:
“What is unfortunate is that sometimes, it is hard to even maintain a cordial relationship. But it’s okay. People say you lose friends over politics. But I saw a meme the other day that said that I have not lost friends over politics, I have lost friends over morals. And I like that a lot. Because your politics reflects your morality, your principles. It shows your ethical value system. So, if I don’t respect your ethical value system, then how can we stay friends?”

In the same conversation, Swara mentioned that she just cannot maintain a fake friendship, and would like to stay away from such a facade. The actress also shared that she cannot be friends with someone who celebrated and justified murder. In her words:
“If you can justify and celebrate murder, then I can’t stay friends with you, as simple as that.”
During the conversation, Swara was asked to share her thoughts on the recent incident in which the newly appointed MP Kangana was slapped by a CISF official at the Chandigarh airport. The actress said that any reasonable person would say what happened to her was extremely wrong. However, Swara discussed that at least Kangana is alive and has security around her, but there are many people who have lost their lives. In her words:
“Anybody who is a reasonable person will say that whatever happened with Kangana was wrong. Kangana just got slapped–and even that should not have happened–but at least she is alive, and has her security around. In this country, people have lost their lives, they’ve been lynched to death, shot dead in a train by a security personnel, in riots, security personnel have been recorded beating up people. Jo log ye saare acts ko justify kar rahe hai, woh phir aake Kangana ke case pe hume mat sikhao.”

Swara and Kangana had a fallout when the latter tagged her and Taapsee Pannu as ‘B-grade actresses’. After Kangana’s statement, Swara appeared on the show, The Bombay Journey and said that she, too, could share her opinion on the Queen actress as we live in a democratic country.
