Tanishaa Mukherji recently addressed the frenzy over a viral Durga Puja video that seemingly captured a heated exchange between her and Kajol.
Bollywood’s relationships are often under intense scrutiny, especially when it comes to star siblings like Kajol and Tanishaa Mukherji. A few months ago, a video from Durga Puja festivities created a buzz across social media because it seemed to capture a rift between Kajol and her sister, Tanishaa. However, the latter recently addressed the video, brushing aside the rumoured spat with her sister.
Recently, Tanishaa Mukherji appeared for a heart-to-heart chat with Sameep Ved on YouTube, where she finally addressed the rumoured spat with Kajol, which had led fans to think the siblings might not be on good terms. Explaining the context behind the viral clip, Tanishaa said:
“We are siblings. We were not fighting. We were just tana maro-ing each other, which is normal. We were just teasing and playing. We didn’t think twice about it because it was a private situation. We were in our private Durga Puja, the media had come from outside. They should also respect our privacy.”
Tanishaa shut down the rumours and clarified that she shares a great bond with her sister, Kajol, and they behave just like normal siblings, in occasional playful banters. She humorously added that people often tend to make a big deal out of what they see without knowing the actual context. Just after that 'spat', the two were captured posing lovingly with their mother, veteran actress, Tanuja.
Tanishaa Mukherji garnered major attention following her Bollywood debut in the 2003 film, Sssshhh, and her bold role in Yash Raj Films’ Neal ‘n’ Nikki (2005) opposite Uday Chopra. Her stint on Bigg Boss 7 in 2013 further cemented her popularity, as audiences appreciated her candidness. However, unlike her sister and mother, Tanishaa could not leave a lasting impression in Bollywood. Talking about her career and whether her superstar sister, Kajol or brother-in-law, Ajay Devgn ever influenced her professional choices, Tanishaa said:
“No, why will they do that? Why would anybody do that? Everybody has a right to make their own choices in life. And I think my family is very progressive… they are very independent, self-contained human beings. They don’t feel the need to control somebody… I would never presume to tell Kajol what she should do or tell Ajay what he should do. And I don’t think they would presume because it’s your life, you have to live with the consequences of your life.”
Further on in the interview, Tanishaa opened up about her bond with Kajol, and she did not hold back on highlighting her struggle with her sister for being ‘mom’s favourite’. Talking about her fights with Kajol and her ‘irritating qualities’, Tanishaa shared:
“That she fights with me. That she has this amazing ability to just shut me down sometimes, like when I am trying to be really smart and all and then she will just like one comment will come and she will shut me down. I hate that, very irritating. And she is always trying to be Mom’s favourite but I am Mom’s favourite.”
Well, as the dust settles on the viral ‘spat’, it’s clear that Tanishaa and Kajol share a wholesome bond, and their stardom does not stop them from having playful sibling banters!
