The Eternal Time Crunch In A Relationship

By Team BollywoodShaadis Last Updated: May 17, 2011 | 00:00:00 IST

Every girl looks forward to her courtship period because nothing compares to the charm of being a ‘wooed bride’. The groom is keen on making her feel cherished and loved. It is the time to know each other and if time is something they don’t have, then God can only help the courting couples or even the wedded ones for that matter. The irony is hardly amusing!

Blame-Game
The economic growth and increasing career orientation of both the sexes have aggravated the problem. Now the would-be-brides are as busy as their fiancés are. The problem is worse in cases where there are different working shifts. One’s sleeping time may be in conflict with other’s waking time. Of course, you understand his problem and he understands yours, but that does not solve the problem one bit!

The easy way out
“Where there is a will, there is a way” – It does sound clichéd, but then this holds true. If you really want to spend time with each other, you will make an effort towards that end. Subconsciously, it is all about how much value you attribute to the new relationship. Agreed, that your career is important too and there are many other things that demand your constant, unfaltering attention but then you do need to ensure that you spend quality time with each other. As usual, it is not about the quantity of time spent, but about the quality.

Try these
1) Observe rituals:
Set specific activities for certain days at a certain time. This way, you will take care to schedule your other occupations in such a way that they do not come in conflict with your ritual. Get together and decide, it can be as simple as a dinner every Tuesday or morning walk together every day. In fact, decide something that you can even observe after your marriage.

2) Plan in advance: Look for opportunities to meet each other. If you know that you have a weekend off two weeks from now, let your partner know about it. This prior knowledge will allow him/her the chance to keep free on the particular days.

3) Retrospection: Before starting something new or even agreeing to help your neighbor in some venture, determine answers to these questions:

  • In what way will the new task affect your relationship time?
  • Will it cause you and your partner to drift away from each other?
  • Does it hinder the long run compatibility and sustainability of your relationship?
  • What will ‘saying no’ cost you?
